This invention relates to an anti-rattling device particularly adapted to be used in conjunction with the control rod for the needle valve for carburetors of the type used on 5 Ford automobiles. The adjustment of the needle valve in this type of carburetor is effected by turning a rod to which the needle is connected, said rod projecting above the carburetor and having associated with it a manually actuated forked operating rod.
The connection of the operating rod to the needle valve rod is a loose one and under the shocks and vibrations imparted to the automobile in driving, certain rattling noises are produced which it is the object and purpose of the present invention to eliminate.
The device which I have made for this purpose is formed from a single piece of spring wire, is qiiickly and easily made at low cost 2 and can be applied to the needle valve rod and its operating rod where the same join together almost instantly to effectively stop any rattling which may otherwise occur at this point.
An understanding of the invention may be had from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which,

Like reference characters refer to like parts in the different figures of the drawing.
In the carburetor used, indicated at 1, a needle valve (not shown) is adjustably mounted, connected with and formed at the lower end of a rod 2 which extends a distance above the upper side of the carburetor. This rod 2 at its upper end is provided with a cross bar 3 located horizontally. The operating rod at for turning the same at its lower end is formed with a fork having downwardly The anti-rattling device which I have made for application to the'needle valve rod and the operating rod therefor at their juncture is best shown in Fig. 3. It is made from a single piece of spring wire bent substantially at its middle, as indicated at 7, to make a U- shaped section having legs 8 paralleling each other which are formed into spring coils 9 lying alongside each other, the ends of the coils being extended outwardly as at 10 at an angle to the legs 8, said extensions 10 being substantially parallel to each other and formed at their ends with hooks 11 and 12 turned inwardly at right angles to the length of the parts 10, with the hook 11 located a short distance from the hook 12 and nearer to the coils 9 than said hook 12. It is not important which of the hooks shall belocated nearer the coils 9 so long as one is located slightly within the other.
In applying this device to the needle valve rod and the operating rod the bend or loop 7 is located against one side of the rod 4, the legs 8 extending downwardly at each side thereof below and pressing against the cross bar 3 so that the coils 9 are disposed directly below said cross bar. The extensions 10 to said coils are then brought upwardly and bent toward the rod 4, hooks 11 and 12 engaging with said rod, one hook slightly be low the other and at a side of the rod 1 opposite to that against which the loop or bend 7 is engaged. This places the coils under strong tension, makes a secure connection of the operating rod to the needle valve rod 2 and holds the operating rod from any aimless up and down movement or any lateral movements which would produce rattling noises.
The construction made from a single piece of spring wire is very simple and its application as described takes but an instant of time. It has proved very effective in service. The invention is defined in the appended claims and is to be considered as comprehensive of all forms of structure coming within their scope.

The combination with a rotatable rod having a cross bar at one end and a forked operating rod having its forks extending through spaced openings in said cross bar, of an anti-rattling device engagingwith said operating rod at one side, extending downwardly at each side of the rod under and in engagement with the cross bar, formed into spring coils under the crossbar and thence extended u Wardly and detachably connected with sai operatin rod atthe Side thereof opposite whererit is rst engaged by saidvdevice, substantially as described 2.
