A. H. DEISHER CHOKER CONTROLLER Filed Feb. 14, 1924 xed to the dash by means of bolts 4 or Patented Dec. 9, 1924.
L UNITED STATES ARTHUR H. DEISHER, OF MIDLAND, MICHIGAN.
CHOKER CONTROLLER.
Application led February 14, 1924. Serial No. 692,775.
To' all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, ARTHUR H. DEISHER, citizen ofthe United States, residing at Midland, in the county of `Midland and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Choker Controllers, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to a choker controller that is a device for operating the choker mechanism of a carbureter ofinternal combustion engines such as are used in automobiles and particularly automobiles of the Ford type. With this controller mechanism it is possible to hold the choker mechanism in various positions as may be desired. Thus in starting the engine it is desirable that preferably in cold weather to hold the choke relatively closed so as to deliver to the engine a rich mixture.
' The object of the present invention is to i provide a device of this nature having a simple and eilicient construction which is readily operated from a convenient position and which is reliable2 inexpensive to manufacture, durable, and well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
With the above and numerous other objects in vievvr as will appear as the de-A scription progresses, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed. j In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a vertical section through the dashboard vof an automobile showi my choke controller attached thereto in side elevation. v
^ Figure 2 is a horizontal section taken substantially on line 2 2 of Figure 1 looking downwardly,
Figure 3 is a fragmentary detail perspective of the choker attachment;
4 is a detail perspective of the rocker arm,
Figure 5 is a detail perspective of frictional disk used with the controller.
Figure 6 is va similar view vof a modified form of said disk.
Referring to the drawing in detail it will be seen that '1 designates a dash board to which is attached a substantially L-shapedv bracket 2l the shorter plate 3 of which is -13 islprovided with an aperture 14 for receiving the bolt. This disk 13 is constructed with an angular extension 15 adapted to pierce an aperture 16 provided in the larger plate of the bracxket 3. A coil spring 20 is disposed about the bolt so as to impinge againstK the disk 13 and hold it into frictional engagement with the disk portion 7 of the rocker member 6. This spring may be tensioned by a nut 21.
In Figure 6 I have shown a slightly modified form of the friction washer or disk indicated by the numeral 13 and provided with the opening 14 and extension 15 .which is adapted vto abut the shorter plate 3 of the bracket 2 so as to prevent rotation thereof. This modified form of the washer will be mounted in the same manner as the preferred form. 13.
A bar 25 is slidable through an opening 26 in the dash board and is connected to the arm 9 by means of a pin 27 passing through the arm 11. The rod 28 leading from the choke of the carbureter terminates in a hook extension 29 passing through the apertured offset ear 12. It will thus be seen that the rocker member 6 may be readily operated by the bar'25 and will retain the position to which it has been actuated because of the frictional engagement of the washer 13 with the' rocker Aelement holding it against the lar er plate of the bracket 2.
t is thought that the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without any more detailed vdescription thereof. It is desired, however, to point out the numerous changes in the details of construction, and in the combination and larrangement of parts as may be re-y sorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope thereof asl hereinafter claimed or sacri cing any of its advantages.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is zI 1.-In combination, a bracket provided with a pair of4 apertures, ,a bolt, passing through `one of the apertures, aA rocker element' pivoted on the bolt, a washer on the bolt, said Washer provided with an extension piercing the other aperture of the bracket for preventing rotation of the washer, a spring on the bolt 'impinging against the washer and holding it in rictional engagement With the rocker element, and means `on the bolt for tensioning said'spring.
2. In a device of the classdescribed, a
2' bracket, a bolt supported by said bracket, a
rocker element rotatable on said bolt, a
washer on said bolt, a spring impinging against the washer to hold the same in -friction'al engagement with the rocker Aelement 'and to hold the rocker element in frictional engagement with the bracket, 'a nuton the bolt tensioning the spring, and said extension provided on the washer adapted to en age the bracket for preventing rotation ol said washerl In testimony whereof I aix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
