HARVEST HAT.

This invention relates to harvest hats.

An object of the invention is to provide a harvest hat. having a relatively wide brim provided with means for preventing the 5 brim from drooping.

Another object of the invention is to provide a harvest hat having a relatively wide brim provided with means for holding portions of the brim rolled in shapes different 1o from the adjacent portions of the brim.

T151 and is secured to the brim by rows of stitches 7. Thus the wire 5 is secured upon the edge of the brim. As the wire 5 and the brim edging 6 are substantially non-elastic the brim is stifiened thereby and caused to retain the shape in which the edge of the brim curves upwardly.

The meeting portions of the wire 5 may be made to overlap as shown (Fig. 1), while one end of the wire is extended inwardly across the brim on which the wire overlaps to the crown, and thence is shaped to conform to the shape of the crown, being extended downwardly on the opposite side of the crown to the opposite side of the brim and thence across the opposite side of the brim to a termination near the edge of the brim. T his wire provides additional strength for the brim and the cross portion of the wire tends to prevent sagging of the sides of the brim. Each side of the brim, if desired, may be provided with a ventilating eyelet 8. The wire crossing the brim and the crown of the hat is preferably confined between or interlaced with the material of which the hat is composed.

I also provide a pair of straps 9, each having one end attached to the marginal portion of the brim and to the edging 6. The opposite end of each strap is provided with one element 10 of a fastener adapted to be engaged with a cooperating element attach-ed to the brim and extending to the upper side thereof, to hold portions of the brim rolled differently from the adjacent portions. cured to the sides of the front of the brim as shown, so as to be capable of use to obtain a greater roll effect of the immediately adjacent portions of the brim, leaving the remaining and intermediate portions of the brim substantially; unchanged from their normal roll. The fastener elements 10 are releasable from the upwardly extending fasteners and may be folded under from and engaged with downwardly extending fastener elements 11 under the brim to support the straps out of the way and leave the brim in the position and configuration in which it is held normally by the wire 5 and the edging 6. Thus the straps 9 are capable'of optional use.

I am aware that the construction and relationship of the parts may be varied without departure from the nature and principle of the invent-ion and do not restrict myself to specific and unessential details.

What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is I 1. A harvest hat comprising a crown and a relatively wide brim having its edge upturned, in combination with a wire extending around the brim adjacent to the edge thereof, substantially nonelastic edging enclosing said wire and the edge of the brim and secured to the brim, stiffening means extending from near one edge of one side of the brim across the brim and across the crown and conforming approximately to the shape of the crown and across the opposite side of the brim, and means in connec tion with the brim in front of said stiffening means for holding a portion of the brim rolled in a different shape from adjacent portions of the brim.

3. A harvest hat comprising a brim and a crown, a pair of straps each having one end secured to the edge portion of the brim,

and means torsecuring the opposite ends oi said straps to the brim between the edge of the brim and the crown to hold adjacent portions of the brim rolled.

4. A harvest hat comprising a brim and a crown, stiffening means for the brim and crown extending transversely along the crown and across the brim at each side of the crown, and devices in connection with the brim in front of said stiffening means and spaced therefrom for holding spaced portions of the brim rolled in front of said stifiening means.
