NURSING BOTTLE.
Appneetion filed December 18, 1925. serial No. 76,299.
This invention relates` to nursing bottles and more particularly to a bottle adapted .to be divided centrally to permit access to its interior.
An important object of the invention is to provide a divided bottle having means for clamping the sections of the bottle in posr tion, the clamping means being releasable to provide access to the interior of the bottle for cleaning purposes.
A still further object is to provide a bottle divided longitudinally to form two sections, the edges of which are adapted to be clamped about a compressible gasket to provide a leak-proof joint.
A still further object is to provide a bottle of the above mentioned characterwherein the sections of the bottle are provided with complementary preferably integral threads adapted to be engaged by suitable threaded clamping rings for securing the bottle sections together, the threads on the bottle and rings being tapered to provide an efficient clamping action.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent during the course of the following description.

Referring to the drawings the numeral 10 lesignates the bottle as a wh-ole preferably formed of glass and divided centrally to form complementary sections 11 and 12. The bottle is provided with a relatively large lower body portion which curves inwardly at its upper end to form a neck 13 which is adapted to be received in the usual nipple 14e.
The adjacent edges 15 of the bottle may be provided throughout their lengths with substantially semi-circular grooves 16 to receive a compressible gasket 17 which is substantially circular in cross section. In Figure 5 of the drawings I have shown a somewhat modified method of forming a leak-proof joint between the bottle sections. In this j 20, substantially square in cross section may be arranged against the shoulder 19 and adapted to contact with the edge 18 of the bottle section 11, as will be apparent.
Means are provided for clamping the bottle sections together to compress the gasket to form a leak-proof joint. As shown in Figure 2, the body portion of the bottle may be provided adjacent its upper end with preferably integral threads 21 which taper to increase in vdiameter toward their lower ends. A sheet metal or similar ring 22 is providedv with threads corresponding to the threads 21 and adapted to be secured downwardly lthereof as will be obvious. The body portion of the bottle further may be provided near its lower end `with threads 23 which taper to decrease in diameter toward their lower ends and these threads also are preferably formed integral with the bottle sections. VA preferably sheet metal cup 24 is adapted to be arranged over the lower end of the bottle. The cup is provided with la flat bottom 25 and cylindrical side walls 2G slightly spaced from the bottle while the upper end of the cup is threaded as at 27 to receive the threads 23. If desired, the cup shaped member 24 may be omitted in which case a threaded ring 28 is employed for engaging the threads 23. This ring obviously will be substantially the duplicate of the ring 22 previously described.
The operation of the device is as follows:
The bottle may be filled in the usual man ner by removing the nipple 14, as will be understood. When it is desired to clean and sterilize the bottle, the nipple is removed `and the ring 22 may be unscrewed and removed from the upper end of the bottle. The cup 24 is unscrewed and withdrawn from the bottom of the bottle whereupon the sections 11 and 12 may be separated and the bottle thoroughly cleansed and sterilized. It will be obvious that the gasketsalso may be removed and sterilized together with the bottle. The sections are assembled by placing the gaskets-in position as illustrated and arranging the sections adjacent each other. The ring 22 is then placed in position from the upper end of the bottle and the cup 24 is secured in position from the lower end 0f the bottle. I prefer to employ the cup 24 to actas a receiver i'or any liquid which may leak from the bottle after the gaskets have been used for a considerable period of time. Obviously' any liquid which leaks around the gasket will tend to iiow along the gaskets if the bottle is held in a vertical or inclined position and accordingly the liquid Will ind its way in the cup 24 to be retained therein.
While I have shown and described the bottle. as being formed yof glass, it will be apparent that any suitable material may be employed, such asaluminum. lVhile I have described the invention as being applied. to a nursingbottle it will be apparent that the invention is not limitedto its application thereto but k'may be used infconnecti-On with anydesiredjform of bottle` The i'orms of gaskets employed are shown merely as alternative forms, and any desired form of gasket may be-:empl-oyed.
It is to be understood that the forms or' my invention v'herewith shown and described are to be taken as preterred examples oi the same and that various changes in the shape, size` and arrangement ot' parts Lmay be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.
I claim:
l. A bottle divided longitudinally to term a pair ot eomplen'ientary sections, a gasket arranged between the edges of said sections and extending;` throughout the lengt-h thereot, said bottle being provided with an upper threaded portion tapered to increase in diameter toward its lower end, a clamping ring threaded internally to eorrespmid to the upper threaded portion of the bottle and adapted to be threaded thereon, said bottle being iurther provided with a lower threaded portion tapered to decrease in diameter toward its lower end, and a second clamping ring threaded to correspond to and adapted to engage the lower threaded portion of the b ottle.
2. A bottle divided longitudinally to form a pair ot' complementary sections, va gasket arranged between the edges oi' Said sections and extending throughout the length thereof, said bottle beingl provided with an upper threaded portion tapered to increase in diameter toward its lower end, a clamping ring threaded to correspond to and adapt ed to engage said upper threaded portion7 said bottle being` 'further provided near its lower end with a threaded portion tapered to decrease in diameter toward its lower end, and a cup receiving the lower end of said bottle, said cup having its upper end threaded to correspond to and adapted to engage the lower threaded portion oi' the hottie.
3. A bottle divided longitudinally to torni a pair of con'iplementary sections7 a gasket arranged between the edges 'ot' said sections and extending -throughout the length thereoi, said bottle being provided with spaced upper and lower tapered threaded portions, and a clamping ring vinternally threaded to correspond to and adapted to engage each of the threaded portions ot said bottle.
