These elastic members hold the skirt sections tightly against the bottle neck and when it is desired to lift the skirt sections preparatory to ren'ioving the cap, the elastic bands 8 are either removed from the bottle or disengaged from the skirt and moved downwardly below the same.
A series of arms 9 are applied to the top of the cap and engaged by the screw 6, said armsterminating in downwardly extending fingers or claws 10 which are adapted to grip the bead 11 surrounding the top of the bottle neck. The arms 9 extend over the upper endsof the skirt members and assist in retaining the same in position, and the claws lO-are adapted to be drawn into a firm engagement with the bottle neck so as to hold the cap securely in position thereon.
The screw 6-has a knurled head 6 which can t is loosened the rings 15 surround the reduced and threaded portion of the screw so that they have a suflicient 11'1'10U11t of play to releasethe claws 10 from engagement with the bottle neck or permit the claws to slide outwardly a sutlicient amount so that they can easily be brought into operative position. l/Vhen the screw is tightened the reduced or conical portion 14 operates as a wedge to forcibly bring the rings 15 into engagement with the cylindrical portion 13 of the screw, thereby drawing the claws 1O inwardly and causing them to firmly engage the bead 11. The screw 6 serves to hold the bars 10 and skirt sections 4 in position on the cap, and in the event any one or more of the skirt sections'become damaged, the damaged sections can be readily removed and replaced by new sections, so that the closure canbe readily kept in proper repair for re peated uses The skirt sections 4 are pivotally engaged at their upperends by the screw 6 and all ofthe skirt sections can be swung around into registry with each other so as to mutually protect one another and enable the deviceto be stored or packed in a small amount of space when it is not in use. Preparatory to using the cap the skirt sections lare swung around so that they are ar ranged s'ymmetrically'about the axis of the 09.1),21S illustrated by Figure 4. With the screw loosened the cap 1 may then be prop erlygfitted upon the bottle neck and the vathe screw 6 is tightened, thereby drawing the bars 8 inwardly and causing the claws 10 to engage the bead 11 of the bottle neck.
The elastic bands 8.are also fitted in the grooves provided by the corrugations 7 of the skirt members. The cap is thus held tightly in positionand the exterior of the bottle neck is covered and protected by the skirt so that it will be free from contamination by handling or coming into contact with other objects. feature of considerable importance because the average bottle closure merely seals'the bottle without covering or protecting any of the exterior portions of the bottle neck. Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent o'fthe United States is,
1. A bottle closure including a cap adapted to fit the mouth of a bottle, a skirt member formed of a series of =separate sections, and a pivotal connection between the skirt sections and the cap whereby the skirt sections can either be swung into a superposed relation when not in'use This is believed to be a or spread out so as to extend over the mouth of the bottle when in use.
2. A bottle closure including a cap adapted to fit the mouth of a bottle, and a skirt member'ca'rrie'd thereby and comprising a series of separate sections which can either be brought together in asuperposed relation or spread outso as to fit over the bottle neck in an overlappingrelation.

A bottle closure including a cap adapted to fit the mouth of a bottle, a skirt member formed of a plurality of similar and interchangeable sections, and fastening means pivotally connecting the skirt mem- ..bers to the cap whereby they'can be swung around into asuperposed relation when not in use or caused to extend in different directions from the cap so as to assume an overlapping relation when folded against the bottle neck. 9. A bottle closure including a cap adapted to fit the mouth of a bottle, arms applied to the cap and provided with claws adapted to engage the bottle, a screw for see p curing the arms to the cap, and wedge means actuated by the screw for forcibly sliding the arms longitudinally to bring the claws into operative position.
