Description
E. BLUTHARDT.
Patented Mar. 9, 1915.
llh lllU @ld PM lltlEt BOTTLE SEAL AND CAP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed March 5, 1913.
l,l31l,21l. Patented Mar. 9, 1915.,
Serial No. 752,193.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, EDWIN citizen of the United States of America, and Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle Seals and capable of Caps, of which the following is a specifica- T1e cap is applied, for tion. example on a bottle This invention relates for bottles or other containers.
BLUTHARDT, a
sists prefor cord so fa ric may be removed and unraveled by pulling the end of the cord or strand forming the cap. The invention thus provides a seal or cap of d of deception. imitated caps after the original contents of In the precise arrangement shown in the are removed. he cap is prefdrawings a bottle 1 having a flange 2 at its erably knitted and may completely or parmouth, and a reduced neck 3, is provided tially inclose the container, the end or ends with a closure such as a cork 4. A knitted of the strand or strands of I cap 5 is fitted over the mouth of the bottle and at its edge is contracted snugly into Other objects of the invention are to procap 5 is shown formed vide a frame or ring in combination with a knitted cap whereby, while the caps are formed independently of the containers with which they are assoclated, they may be combined therewith to the same practical The band 6 serves as a form cap 5 may be is preferably a chain stitch or other similar such cap and band, one which will admit of unraveling the cap fastening devices for end or ends of the material forming the cap.
An illustrative embodiment of this invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a ends free or loosely held together by leaden seals 7 as indicated in Fig. 4. After the cap is placed band 6 is tightened as ,indi- Fig. 4 and the seal is 40 perspective view of a bottle a woven cap and a suitable a fragmentary sectional pere showlng the cated by full lines in clamped in place.
n operation to remove the bottle closure the thumb tack 9 is first removed and serves as a grip for the purpose of pulling the cord outwardly and thereby unraveling the cap e cap in this manner is obviously completely destroyed while the band 6 or seal 7 0 need not be broken. Accordingly if empty s employed to secure caps to e present invention is designed to safeguard merchandise of known quality against the substitution therefor by dealers or dis- 5 pensers of merchandise of inferior or unnot been fraudulentlyemployed with imitated caps after the original contents are removed, as it would be extremely difficult if not impossible to weave a new cap around one of the bands when in place on the neck of a bottle.
Although but one specific embodiment of this invention has been herein shown and described, it will be understood that numerous details of the construction shown may be altered or omitted without departing from the spirit of this invention as defined by the following claims.
I claim:
1. The combination with a container having a closure, of a cap covering said closure comprising a cord so interlooped upon itself that the cord may be unraveled and the cap removed by pulling one end of the cord, and means for normally preventing the unraveling of said cap.
2. A bottle cap made of an openly knitted fabric capable of being unraveled and suitably formed to contain the head of a bottle, and a fastening device for preventing the unraveling of said fabric.
copies of this patent may he obtained for 3. The combination with a bottle having a closure and a reduced part below its mouth, and a cap extending over said closure and fitting into said reduced part, said cap comprising a cord so looped upon itself that the cord may be unraveled and thereby uncover the closure, and means normally preventing the unraveling of said cap.
f:- A container having a closure, means for sealing said closure comprising a cap secured in position over said closure and including a cord secured to the remainder of the cap, suitably woven that it may be unraveled and the cap removed by pulling the cord, and a device for securing one end 0' said cord to the bottle closure.
Signed at Chicago this 21st day ruary, 1913.
