Description

Patented 'Man 4, 1,930 y crimson H. GLITZKE, or KANSAS oirY, Missouar Y SELLING MEANS non rnnronn'rnn ooNrAINER CAPs Application led February 27, 1928. Serial No. 257,310.
The present invention relates to closure constructions for receptacles, such as cans,
bottles, jars and the like, and particularly 'to containers from which the contents are designed to be discharged by shaking the container and allowing the contents to escape by j Y way .of openings orperforations the cap or closureelement.
` The principal' object in view-is to provide provided in a closure cap or element of this character having the usual spraying or sifting openings' or perforations, together with means for j Y f temporarilysealing such openings or perfovthe contents thereof.
rations until suchtimeas it is desired to use ywith this Object in View, i provide liner 4disk or diaphragmy within the capor closure element, in position to seal the openings or perforations thereof, Said liner or diaphragm element .being of suitable irangible material in order'that the same may be readily punc- V turedi'or allowing the contents of the conl tainer to be ejectedthrough the spraying or l siftingjopenings in the cap or closure element.-v h y In carrying out the invention 1n practice, I 'provide a secondjperforated disk adapted to t inside the cap or"closure element with its-openings in register with the openings in 3o.
they cap element and acting to hold the liner vor diaphragm element in snug fitting relation against the inner yface of the cap;
lVViththe foregoing objects. inview,the 1nvention will now be described by reference to the accompanying drawing illustrating a suitable and practical form of construction :tor embodying the proposed improvement,
lafter which the features deemed to be novely will be set forth and claimed,
y 'In the drawing.:-
Figure l is a perspective view showing a container provided with a cap or closure element equipped with the present improvevview of said cap or closure element, and ilment; and y n y `Figure 2 k1s a transverse detail sectlonal lustrating the interior construction comprisf ing they improvement. f
Referring now to said drawing in detail,
y this shows-the invention embodied in a closure or cap element 3 of common construction having the marginal iange portion 4 for embracing the neck portion of a container, which may be a bottle, can, or any other desiredform of receptacle such as a jar having any suitable form of thread or other expedient (not'shown) adapted for retaining engagement with marginal inturned portions 6 'provided on the fiang'e 4 of the cap; such reed to fit snugly within the iange portion l p and against the interior face of the body portion thereof and hence in sealingrelation to the openings 7, as clearly shown in Figure 2. This disk or diaphragmv element 8 is of suitable frangible material, adapted to be read- --ily punctured by means of a suitable pointed instrument'f) as represented in Figure 2. For tacilltating such punching operation, as well as forassisting in maintaining the diaphragm or disk 8 in the position illustrated, that is, in sealing relation to the'openings or perforations 7, a second disk orwafer 10 is provided of substantially the same size as the disk or diaphragm 8 and fitting snugly against the latter within the flange 4, this second disk 10 being also provided with one or more openings 12, corresponding to the openings 7 and in position. to accurately register with said openings 7 as shown in Figure 2. By this means, it is apparent that by use of the tool or instrument 9, little effort is required for effecting the punching of the portions of the disk or diaphragm 8 which are embraced be- 90 tween the registering openings 7 and l2 and a more effective punching action is produced due to the cooperating openings in registered relation. In this way, the openings 7 are unsealed, and the contents of the jar or can D5 may be sprayed or sifted out through said openings 7 in the usual way. The improvement thus provides a very simple and yet inexpensive and eliicient means for the temporary sealing of perforated caps 109 3 and until such time as their use is desired, and While I have illustrated in the drawing n `the use of a plurality of the perforations 7 `it is apparent that this number is unessential, and the cap 3 may be provided with but one such opening, or as many as may be desired; it being onlyy necessary that the interior disk 10 vbe provided with onel ormore openings in such position as to register the l lo same with the outer openings 7 of the cap.
Y While I have illustrated and" described what I now regard as the preferred form of embodying the improvement, I desire to re# i serve the right tol make such changes and? modifications as may fairly fall within the scope of the appended claims. f v f Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is f 1. A cap structure for containers comprisf ing a perforated cap elementadaptedto be removably fitted to the container, a perfo rated disk secured inside the cap and .having perforations of the same sizeas the perfora tions of said cap element and in yregistered relation therewith, and a closure elementcomprising an imperforate disk or diaphragm of frangible material embraced between said first diskV and cap element and sealing the perforations thereof.
2.` A container top provided withfone or more perforations, a disk located inside said Vtop and provided with one or` more perforations of the same size asthe perforations of the top and registering therewith, and a closure velement comprising an imperforate disk V or'diaphragm of frangible material retained in place between said rst disk and the in side of the top for temporarily sealing vtheA n 40 perforations thereof. Y
In witness whereof I hereunto affix my signature, s
GREGOR HENRY GLITZKE.
