. This invention relates to improvements in stencil sheets for use in duplicating manuscript and typewritten documents, drawings and the like, consistingof a sheet offibrous material coatedor impregnated with a coating material which is impermeable to ink and can be stencilized by the pressure of a writing stylus or the impact of the typeof a writing machine.
It has previously been proposed to provide a stencil sheet of this kind, of paper impregnated or coated with a solution of a cellulose ester such as cellulose nitrate or cellulose acetate, in a suitable solvent, in combination with a tempering agent such as fatty oils, fatty or na hthenic acid glycerides, chlorinated naphthalene, triacetine and butyl tartrate.
The present invention comprises a fibrous base coated or impregnated with a coating composition consisting of a solution of esters of polysaccharides and squalene.
Squalene is an unsaturated hydrocarbon ((1,,H obtained from liver oils of sharks.
In carrying out the invention, a sheet of fibrous base, such as Japanese yoshino paper, is vcoated or impregnated with material prepared polysaccharides, s mannan acetate, cellulose acetate, cellulose nitrate, in suitable solvents and diluents, such as acetone, ethyl alcohol, butyl alcohol, benzyl alcohol, ethyl acetate, butyl acetate, ,amyl acetate, petroleum benzine, benzol, toluol, zylol, and adding thereon squalene. It is also found to be advantageous'to use hydrogenated squalene or in admixture with squalene 1n the present invention. If desired, also a suitable quantity of oils, fats, waxes, glycol or glycerine esters of fatty acid or naphthenic acid may be added to the above coating material, The paper base may be coated oriimpregnated with the coating material in any desired manner. The coating material may be as starch acetate,-
acids, naphthenic acid dissolving esters of h uc Application filed December 17,1927. Serial No. 240,940.
added into the paper stuff in a mixing hollander during the paper making operation.
The proportions of the ingredients of the composition may vary according to several circumstances. The following is an examp1e: Parts 1 by weight. 10
polysaccharides is in e not only one of definite charides, but also a mixture.
The term esters of tended to includ esters of polysac of them.
According to the present invention the coating material, including esters of polysaccharides and squalene, is remarkably limpid owing to the larger fluidity of squalene than the glycerides of fatty acid or naphthenic acid. Hence the composition of igher concentration may 1 be obtained. Moreover the coating of the stencil sheet under the present invention forms a homogenous mixture which is soft and flexible, giving a clear writing thereon by the pressure of a hand stylus or by the impact of the type of a writing machine.
' at I claim is 1. A stencil sheetadapted for stencilizing y pressure, consisting of a base of fibrous material including esters of polysaccharides and squalene.
2.- A stencil sheet adapted for stencilizing by pressure, consisting of a base of fibrous material including esters of polysaccharides and hydrogenated squalene.
3. A stencil sheet adapted for stencilizing by pressure, consisting of a base of fibrous material including esters of polysaccharides, 5. A stencil sheet adapted for stencilizing squalene and tempering agents. by pressure, consisting of a base of fibrous 4:.
