Description

- the purpose.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,-
MARTIN GRAY, OF MENTOR, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN DERRICKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 166,202, dated August 3, 1875; application filed February 2, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARTIN GRAY, of Mentor, in the county of Lake and State of Ohio, haveinvented certain Improvements in Derricks, of which the following is a specification This invention relates to the combination of the derrick-frame and brace in such a manner that the said brace can be adjusted to the derrick-frame, so as to form a support to keep the frame in an uprightposition. The construction and operation of the brace is fully described in the following description.
Figure l is a view of the brace as attached to the derrick. Fig. 2 shows the construction of the brace.
A, Fig. l, is the frame of the derrick. Said derrick has the two cross-bars B and G framed into it, for the purpose of strengthening the said frame, and form'inga point for attaching the upper end of the brace D. Said brace is formed of wood, and is of a suitable length for The upper end of the brace is cut at. an angle, 1', leaving the notch a on the lower edge of the angle, as shown at Fig. 2.
On the upperedgeof the brace the hook b is secured in any convenient manner, and allowing the hook to project sutficiently beyond the end of the brace to hook over the cross-bars B or G of the derrick, thus forming a convenient attachment of the brace to the derrick. The brace can be attached to the bars at any point, so as to be out of the Way of the work, and when it is not in use it can be quickly removed.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The brace D, with its angle 2', notch a, and hook I) on its upper end, in combination with the derrick A, substantially as and for the purpose as hereinbefore set forth.
MARTIN GRAY. Witnesses:
