Description

(No Model.)
H. S. SPRATLEY.
DRILL ATTACHMENT. No. 334,817. Patented Jan. 26, 1886.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HIRAM S. SPRATLEY, OF NORTH SPRINGFIELD, MISSOURI.
DRILL ATTACH M ENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 334,817, dated January 26, 1886.
Application filed December 5, 1885. Serial No. 184,768. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, I-IIRAM S. SPRATLEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at North Springfield, in the county of Greene and State ofMissouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Drill Attachments; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in drill attachments, the object of which is to provide a cheap, simple, durable, and convenient device for holding a drill so that holes may be drilled in boilers, or bolts removed from the same. These objects I attain by means of the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a view showing two sides of the entire device. Fig. 2 is a'detail view.
Similar letters of reference represent corresponding parts in both figures.
A is a frame of any desired size and shape, having an eye, a, for attaching a drill. G. Said eye has screw-threads for feeding the drill. Said frame also has a long slot, B. It extends from near the eye to the back end,for receiving a sliding bolt, D, or other suitable device for attaching the frame to the boiler. The bolt D has a shoulder, d, which rests against the under side of the frame, and a screw-nut, E, for securing it in any desired position in the slot. The opposite end of said bolt D is provided with a notch or book, cl, to enter a hole in the boiler for holding the frame firmly to the side of the boiler, which is accomplished by means of a screw-nut, F, on the said bolt, which is screwed down against the outside of the boiler, the hook catching on the inside. Said frame is provided with legs H H, near the back end, extending outward and downward and provided with thumbscrews I I, for adjusting the frame in any desired position to the side of the boiler.
Its shaft 70' has a head, k", which is driven forward by means of the wheel L, which is secured to the hollow shaft 1, having threads Z i for working in the eye a. Thus I have a device which may be secured to the boiler in any desired position, and without moving the bolt D from the boiler.
The frame may be moved back and forth by means of the slot B, or turned in any desired positiomand secured firmly in place by means of thumbscrews I I.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A drill-fran'ie, A, having an eye, a, slot B, legs H H, provided with thumbscrews l I, a drill, G, and bolt D, substantially as shown and described.
2. A bolt, D, having a hook, d, a nut, F, shoulder d, and nut E, combined with a frame having a slot, B, substantially as shown and described. 7
3. The combination of a drill, a frame having a slot, B, eye a, and thumb-screws I I, and a bolt or support, D, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
4. The combination, with a drill composed of a winch, K, shaft it, having a head, It, a wheel, L, provided with a hollow shaft, Z, having threads 1 of a frame having an eye, a. provided with screw-threads, a slot, B, legs H H, provided with thumb-screws I I, and an attaching-bolt, D, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HIRAM S. SPRATLEY.
