Description

Feb. 14, 1928. 1,658,944
E. G. SCHAEFFER INFANTS PORTABLE COLLAPSIBLE BATHTUB Filed June 1, 1927 IN VENTIJR 4 ,ATfORNEY Patented Feb. 14, 1928.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDWARD'G. SCI-IAEFFER, OF'BROOKLYN, NEW YORK;
INFANTS PORTABLE COLLAPSIBLE BATIITUB.
Application filed June 1, 1927. Serial No. 195,618.
This invention relatesto improvements in infants combined bathtub and dressing table and has for one of its objects the provision of a portable and collapsible bathtub that can readily be suspended from the sink faucets and rigidly supported thereon.
Another object of the'invention is to provide a bathtub of this nature that can be easily suspended from the faucets of a sinkv at a convenient height, so that the one bathing the child does not have to stoop down while so doing.
A further object of the invention is to provide such a bathtub with a swingingly mounted lid that can be swung to overliethe bathtub and be usedas a dressing table after the child is bathed.
A still further object of the invention is to provide an infants bathtub that may be folded up when not in use and one that is simple and inexpensve in construction and yet eflicient in operation.
Other objects and novel features of construction of my improved bathtub will become apparent as the specification proceeds.
The single figure shown in the drawing forming a part of this specification, is a view in perspective of my improved bathtub shown suspended from the faucets of asink and supported at the front thereof on the sink proper.
Referring to the drawing in detail, 1 indicates the body of the bathtub preferably made of a rubber fabric and supported on a rectangular wire frame 2. The said frame 2 has hingedly mounted thereon a substantially U-shaped frame 3 by which the bathtub may be suspended from faucets t of a sink 5. Upon the rear bar of the frame 3 there are slidingly mounted frictional clamping members 6 to slide underneath the faucets 4: and frictionally engage them to prevent any lateral movement of the bathtub. These clamping members may be made of flat spring metal or of wire or of any other material suitable for the purpose. Stops 7 are provided on the rear bar of the bathtub frame 2 which contacts with the front ends of the side bars of the frame 3 to limit the upward movement of thesaid frame 3 and the consequent lowering of the bathtub at the rear thereof. Hingedly secured to the front bar of the frame 2 is a supporting frame 8 adapted to fit over the top of the front wall of the sink basin and thus rigidly support the bathtub. At one end of the bathtub frame 2 there is swingingly mounted a lidor-cover 9, which comprises a frame 10 having stretched thcreover a covering 11' made of any suitable material such as canvas, rubberized fabric or the like. This lid or cover may normally, when the child is being bathed, hang down as indicated in dot and dash lines, or if the usual washtubs are alongside the sink the lid may assume the position shown in full lines. child has been bathed the lid 9 may be swung to overlie the mouth or top of the tub and used as a dressing table for the child.
The bathtub may be filled with water by a rubber hose 12 attached to the faucet con nection 13 and may be emptied by removing a plug let at the bottom of the tub.
From the description given, it will be obvious that the advantages derived from the use of my improved bathtub and dressing table, and manner of 'mounting same are manifold. One of the advantages derived is that no bending. or stooping is re quired when bathing or dressing the child as is the case when using the bathtubs now commonly used, since thetub is suspended and supported at such a height as to make such bending or stooping unnecessary.
Another advantage derived is that due to the fact thatthe bathtub is suspended from and supported on the sink, the bathtub may be readily filled and emptied without ,splashing or spilling the water over the floor as is often the case with bathtubs not so arranged.
Thile I have shown a preferred form of my invention, I do not limit myself to the exact construction shown and described, as many variations may be had without departing from the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
After the 1. In a portable babys bathtub adapted to fit over the faucets hingedly secured to one side of the bathtub frame and members slidingly mounted on the suspension frame to frietionally engage the underside of the faucets to prevent lateral movement of the tub.
S. In a portable babys bathtub adapted to be suspended from the faucets of a sink, a bathtub frame, a bathtub suspended therefrom, a bathtub suspension frame adapted to fit over the faucets hingedly secured to one side of the bathtub frame, members slidingly mounted on the suspension frame to frie- Lease 14 tionally engage the underside of the faucets to prevent lateral movement of the tub, a bathtub supporting frame hingedl'y mounted at the opposite side of the bathtub frame adapted to engage the front Wall of the sink, and means on the bathtub frame 'in operative relation With the suspension frame to maintain the bathtub at a predetern'iined height.
In testin'iou v whereof I hereunto aflix my signature.
EDWA \n e. SCHAEFFER.
