FOLDABLE NURSERY TABLE.
Application filed April 6, 1922. Serial No. 550,044.
To all whom it/mag) concern:
Be it known that I, DE Wrrr C. WARD, a citizen of the United States, residing'at Rochester in the county of Monroe and State of, New York, have invented a new and useful Foldable NurseryTable, of which the following is a s ecification.
This invention re ates to foldable tables and more particularly to nurse'ry tablesof this character.
The object of the invention is to provide a table especially constructed for use in a nursery as an infants bath and utility table in which a bath tub may be normally housed and concealed within'the table and opened up for use when desired. I
Another object is to provide a table of this character having ahinged top with a compartment beneath it to contain a removable, bath tub or other vessel to be concealed when not in use, the top, having a flexible supporting surface to receive and comfortably support an infant while being dried or dressed.
Another object is 0 provide a table of this character which is sanitary and condeparting from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 represents a perspect ve v1ew of the table constituting this inventionwlth the top shown open to expose the bath tub ready for use. t
Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view showing the table in folded collapsed position.
Fig. 3 is a transverse vertical section of the table with the topshown closed for concealing the tub. I Fig. 4 is a detail side elevation of the detachable supporting brace for the legs with parts broken out for convemence in illustration, and
Fig. 5 is a similar view of the leg employed for supporting the top when in open position, I
.used, into the In the embodiment illustrated the table const tuting this invention comprises a tub supporting frame 1 constructed of a rectangular skeleton top member composed of side bars 2 connected by end bars 3 and having at the corners thereof substantially .triangular metallic soap dishes 4 upon which rest and ls-supported a removable tub or basin 10 having an outstanding lip 11 'for engage- (ill ment' with the dishes as is shown clearly-in Fig. 3.
The'tub supporting frame is connected with a similarly shaped smaller frame 15 by means of corner supports or brace bars 5 which converge toward their lower ends as is shown 15 1s also composed of side bars 16 connected by end bars 17, the side bars carrying on their outer faces laterally projecting towel racks 18 which maybe of any suitable or desired construction. A top-20 is hinged clearly in Figs. 1 and 3. lThe smaller frame at one side edge to one of the side bars 2 of the tub supporting frame and is designed to open. outwardly when the tub is to be which position able leg 23 having a'c amp 24 at its upper end which is removably engaged with the outer side bar or edge of top 20. This top 20 is preferably constructed-of a rectangular frame having a flexible infant supporting central portion 22.composed of rattan or other suitable material.
The frame 1', is supported by two pairs of legs 25 and 30 hingedly connected with opcomposed of uprights26 and 27 connected at position shown in Fig.1 in it is su ported by a detachposite ends of said frame- The legs 25 are intermediate their ends by a cross bar 28 and at their upper ends by a cross bar 29 which is hinged to the lower edge of one of the end bars 17 of the lower frame '15 to adapt the legs to be foldedinwardly flat against said frame When the table is collapsed.
The pair of legs 30 is composed of uprights or bars 31 and 32 similar in shape and construction to those of the other pair ,and which are connected intermediate their ends by a crossbar 33 and at their upper ends by a cross bar 34, the legs or bars 31 and 32 being hinged at their upper ends as shown at 35 to the lower edge of the cross bar 34 which is fixedly connected to frame 15 belowthe cross bar 17' at the end thereof opposite to the end on which the legs 25 are mounted. This mounting of the legs 25 and 30 in different horizontal planes provides for the foldin of the legs 25 fiat against the frame. an the foldingof legs 30 over the legs 25 in compact position when the table is collapsed as is shown in Fig. 2.
When the legs are open for use a longitudinally arranged supporting brace 36 is detachably connected with the cross bars 28 and 33 by means of hook shaped clips 37 carried by the ends of the member 36 and which fit down over the cross bars as is shown clearly in Fig. 1. I
In the use of this table it is set up in operative position by opening the legs 25 and 30 and connecting them by the cross bar 36 which will securely hold them in rigid position, and if the tub 10 is to be used, the
' top is opened into the position shown in "structe F1 1. If the tub is not to be used and it is desired to use the table to support the infant for dressing or other purposes, the top is closed into the position shown in Fig. 3 and the free edge thereof is supporteoLon upstandingstuds 2 carried by the side bar 2 opposite that to which the top is hinged so that said top' Will be level, the studs compensating for the distance which the hinges space the-top above the frame.
The arts from which the table is con- (l are preferably made of wood but obviously, if desired, they may be constructed of enameled metal.
To collapse the table for storage or other purposes, all that is necessary is to detach the brace bars 36 from the cross bars 28 and 33 of the legs and then fold said legs inward with legs lapping legs 25 in the manner above described and the table will occupy a minimum amount of space for shipping or other purposes.
If desired, a shelf 38 may be mounted .be--
low the tub 10 on the frame 15 and designed for any desired purpose.
I claim In a table of the class described, a frame including a rectangular skeleton top having triangular corner plates to, form combined top braces and article supports, a similarly shaped smaller top located below and spaced operative position.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto atfixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses;
' ,DE WITT CLINTON WARD. Witnesses:
