PATENT OFFICE.
'WIEILIEM BRIDGES, OF MUSCA'IINE, IOWA.
NECK-SHAVI-NG GUARD.
Application filed September 15, 1924. Serial No. 737,937.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, VILLIAM G. Biuneus, a citizen of the United States, residing at Muscatine, in the county of Muscatine and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Neck-Shaving Guards, of which the following is a specifi- "ation.
The present invention appertain's to a neck shaving guard and aims primarily to improve upon the structure shown in Letters Patent #1,2et7,787 issuedto me on November 27, 1917.
The general object of the invention is the provision of a guard or guide whereby a person may properly shave his or her neck.
The particular object of the invention is to generally improve upon devices of this nature by providing a very simple and efficient construction, one which is reliable, in-
expensive to manufacture, easily adjusted on the head, durable, strong, and well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
\Vith the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a view in side elevation showing the guard applied,
Figure 2 is a rear elevation of the guard,
Figure 3 is a detail perspective view showing the portion of the guard proper and the spacing strip attached thereto, and
Figure 4: is a section through the guard proper showing the spacing strip in side elevation.
Referring to the drawing in detail it will be seen that the device consists generally of a guard proper G, a. spacing strip S and an elastic band B. The guard proper G is in the form of a bar 5 including an inner core of wire with a rubber tubing thereover which is curved longitudinally to conform to the shape of the lower edge of the hair on the back of the head and is provided at its end with ear loops 6 which terminate in straight extensions 7. The loops 6 form a guide and guard for shaving around the ears while the straight extensions 7 form a guide for shaving between the temples and cheeks.
The elastic band may be formed of any suitable material and is placed about the head as is indicated in Figure 1. The spacing strip S has a curved body 8 the lower end of which is coiled about the intern'ied'iate portion of the wire foi'njiin'g part of bar 5 as is shown at 9 whi le the upper end' thereof shown at 10 is curved eccentrica lly in respect to the body Adjacent the eccentrically curved end 10 the body 8 has provided thereon corrugations or friction projections 11 of suitable formation with which the band B is adapted to engage in order to prevent it from slipping off of the spacing strip. The band and this spacing strip hold the guard G in its proper position in firm engagement with the head. The upper end 10 of the strip also engages the head as will be seen in Figure l. The portion 12 of the band B which engages with the strip S is preferably made of some tougher material than the band itself in order that the corrugations or projections 11 will not wear therethrough.
It is thought that the construction and operation, and use of the invention will be clearly understood without a more detailed description thereof. It is desired, however,
to point out that numerous changes in the details of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:
1. In combination, a head engaging band, a guard, a bowed strip fixed at one end to the guard, and provided adjacent its other end with a roughened surface with which the band is engageable.
2. In a device of the class described, a guard formed from a bar bent longitudinally and having looped ends terminating in straight projections, a spacing strip having a bowed formation terminating at one end in a coil engaging the guard and at its other end in an eccentrically curved terminal, said strip provided with corrugations on its surface, and a band engageable with said surface of the strip.
3. In a device of the class described, a
guard formed from a bar bent longitudinally and having looped ends terminating in straight projections, a spacing strip having a bowed formation terminating at one end in a coil engaging the guard and at its other end in an eccentrically curved terminal, said strip provided with corrugations on its sur face, a band engageable with said surface of the strip, said band being formed of elastic material.
4. In a device of the class described, a guard formed from a bar bent longitudinally and having looped ends terminating in straight projections, a spacing strip having a bowed formation terminating at one end in a coil engaging the guard and at its other end in an eccentrically curved terminal, said strip provided with corrugations on its surface, a band engageable with said surface of the strip, said band being formed of elastic material, a portion of said material being reinforced for engaging with the corrugations.
5. In a guard of the class described ineluding a wire core with a rubber tubing thereover curved longitudinally to conform to the rear portion of the head adjacent the neckand having looped ends terminating in straight projections.
6. In combination, a guard curved longitudinally to conform to the rear portion of the head adjacent the neck, a strip attached to the guard, a head engaging band, said strip provided with a roughened surface for receiving the band when the band is disposed about the head thereby holding the guard and strip in place on the head.
In testimony whereof I afiiX my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
ILLIAM G. BRIDGES. I lVitnesses:
