To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY G. AiNswon'rn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kentland, in the county of Newton and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Inwardly-Operating Door-Control Mechanism, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the reference characters marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to improvements in inwardly opening door control mechanism, and more particularly to that form of mechanism embracing an endless cable.
The invention consists in the devices and combination of devices herein illustrated, described and claimed.

Fig. 1 illustrates, in plan view, partly in sect-ion, a device embodying my invention, showing the doors closed.
Fig. 2 is a similar view showing some of the parts in changed position, the doors being opened.
Fig. 3 is a vertical, sectional view of a detail, the section being taken in the plane of the dotted line 33 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4: is a plan view of a detail showing means for taking up slack in the cable.
In said drawings, A represents a fixed support, such as a. garage building, for ex- B, B, are doors hinged to the front wall 1 of the support A, the side walls of which are indicated at 2, 2. C, C, are guideway timbers or beams secured above the door opening 3 to the support A, in fixed position, to afford a support and a path or guide for amovable element E, the path of travel of which is normal to the front wall 1. D is an operating unit, as a whole, mounted preferably above the beams C. F is an endless cable secured to the movable element E and operatively connected with the door B whereby the latter may be opened or closed.
The doors B are hingedly secured to the front wall 1 by hinges 4. The operating unit D comprises a housing 5, a. rotatable shaft 6 mounted therein, a gear shaft 7, an electrically operated motor 8, having a shaft 9, and operative. connections (such as the belt 10) between the two shafts 7 and 9. A crank 11 is mounted on the lower end of the shaft 6 and is operatively connected with the movable element E by the link 12. The current may be supplied to the operatingunit l) by the lines 13, 1-1 and15, and controlled by switches 16. Any suitable power unit may be used but the unit D illustrated is that shown, described and claimed in Letters Patent No. 1,418,420, issued to me and dated June 6, 1922, to which reference is hereby made for further details of operation.
The element E is provided with laterally disposed lugs, indicated at 17, which have operative connection with the guideway timbers C. A heave or pulley wheel 18 is mounted on a bracket 19 extending out from the wall 2. Similar sheaves or pulleys 20 and 21 are mounted on the under side of the guide timbers C, one near the door and one near the unit D, and over these are trained the cable F. The sheave 21 is supported on a bracket or arm 22 which projects inwardly from the wall 1. The door B has a bracket or arm 23 having a cable aperture, to which bracket the cable is securely fastened as indicated at 24c. This arm, when the door is closed (see Fig. 3), is positioned below and near the sheave 21. The cable F is fastened, also, to a bracket 25 projecting laterally from the movable element E.
G is a spring secured at its ends 26 to the cable F on each side of the bracket 25, thus forming normally two loops 27 of slack cable between the points of attachment to the bracket 25 and the spring G. I
When there are two doors B, as shown in these drawings, there of course will be two cables F, one attached to each side of the movable element 3. I The operation of the device will be mani fest. When the doors are in a closed position, as indicated in Fig. 1, a switch, say 16, is closed, the unit-D set into instant opera tion, the crank 11 moves from the position shown in Fig. 1 to that shown in Fig. 2, the moving element E traveling longitudinally in the direction of the doors. This moves the cable F around the sheaves 19, 20 and 21. and in consequence of the cable being fastened to the arm 23, this movement of the cable will cause the door B to swing 011 its hinges to the position shown in Figure 2.-
I claim as my invention:
1. The combination with a fixed support having a door opening, a door hinged thereto to open inwardly and a substantially horizontal guide way secured to the support above the door and extending inwardly therefrom, of a pair of aligned sheaves" positioned below one of the beams, onesheave being secured to the said support near the door opening and the other to said beam at a considerable distance from the door opening, a cable bracket secured to the door near its top and aligned with said sheaves when the door is closed, a sheave located on a fixed support in the same plane with but out of line with said aligned sheaves and located at a distance from the door, an element movable in the guide way, an endless cable trained over said sheaves and operatively attached to the cable bracket and to said movable element, and means for actuating said movable element to open or close the door, said means including an electrically operated power unit.
2. The combination with a fixed support having a door opening, a door hinged thereto to open lnwardly and a pair of spaced apart beams secured to the support above the door and extending inwardly therefrom in a substantially horizontal plane, of apair of aligned sheavespositioned below one of the beams,*one sheave being secured to the said support near the door opening and the other to said beam at a considerable distance from the door opening, a cable bracket secured'to the door near its top and aligned with said sheaves when the door is closed, a
sheave located on a fixed support out of line with and intermediate of said aligned sheaves, a longitudinally movable block between-said beams, an endless cable trained over said sheaves and operatively attached to the cable bracket and to the movable block, and means for actuating said block to open or close the door, and resilient means connected with the cable to provide slack in the cable on each side of its point of attachment withthe movable block.
The combination with a fixed support having a door opening, a door hinged thereto to open inwardly and a pair of spaced apart beams secured to the support above the door and extending inwardly therefrom, in a substantially horizontal plane, of a pair of aligned sheaves positioned below one of the beams, one sheave being secured to the said support near the door opening and the other to said beam at a considerable distance from the dooropening, a cable bracket secured to the door near its top and aligned with said sheaves when the door is closed, a sheave located on a fixed support out of line with and intermediate of said aligned sheaves, a block movable longitudinally between beams, an endless cable trained over said sheaves and operatively attached to the ca le bracket and to the movable block, means for actuating said bloclr' to open or close the door, and a spring secured at its ends to the cableat points each side of the point of attachment of theca-ble to the movable block. b
4:. The combination with a fixed support, a pair of doors hinged to open inwardly, and an electrically operated power unit, of operating mechanism 1 comprising parallel members forming a guideway, secured to said support above the meeting edges of the doors and extending inwardlytherefrom in a horizontal plane, a block operatively connected with said power unit and movable along said guideway toward and from the door opening, a sheave or pulley rotatably secured to the lower faceof the members forming the gnideway at a point remote from the door opening, a pair or" sheave pulleys on the inside of the fixed support, one above each door, when closed, near its top margin and below the forward end of the respective guideway members, a bracket on each door near its upper edge adjacent to and in alignment with its adjacent pulley when the doors are closed, a pair of sheaves or pulleys intermediate the ends of the guideway members, secured one to the right and one to the left'of said guideway members on a other door bracket being operatively con-' nected to the other cable.
