DOOR CONTROL.
Application filed July 14,1921. Serial No. 484,727.
T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HARRY G. AINswoR'rH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kentland, in the county of Newton and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door Controls,
lof which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying rages. The invention consists in the devices and combination of devices illustrated and described, and more particularly. pointed out in the appended claims.

Referring to the drawings, A represents the walls of a building, such as a garage, and B, B, a pair of doors hinged thereto at 7), said doors being shown closed in Fig. 1, in full lines, and shown in dotted lines as open. C is a timber or a suitable fixed sup-. port of a building. supporting one end of a pair of spaced guide blocks D. D. In guide ways 1 of the guide blocks D are located movable blocks E, E, each block having cut away ends 6 adapted to fit and slide within the longitudinal grooves 1. The blocks D are suitably fastened in a casting F upon which is mounted an electric motor M, suitably connected to an electric circuit indicated by the lines 2, 3, 4. The motor shaft is provided with a worm W in mesh with a worm gear G. The motor shaft is horizontally disposed, as shown, and the worm gear shaft vertically disposed,
On the lower end of the worm gear shaft 9 is a sprocket wheel H. Secured to a shaft h, properly journaled in a cross bar h, is a second sprocket wheel H. A sprocket chain H is mounted upon the sprocket wheels H, H. It will be understood that when the motor is operated, the worm W turns the worm gear G and byuneans of the sprocketwheels H, H, the sprocket chain H is moved continuously in one direction. To one of the links I of the sprocket chain H is secured a downwardly projecting arm I, which arm is adapted to have movable engagement with a transversely arranged groove or recess 6 in the block E. The under side of the block E is provided with a catch 6 and the under side of the blockE 15 provided with a pivoted looking hook a. When the hook e engages the catch e the blocks E, E are securely locked together and travel together back and forth, as the case may be, between the guide blocks D. To the lower end of the block E, is pivotally secured, at 5, one end of a rod R. The other end ofthe rod R is pivotally secured at 6 to one of the hinged doors. 7 is a push button switch located in the electrical circuit with the circuit closed. When the hutton 8 is pushed in by the contact point 9, the circuit is broken. The contact point 9 is on one end of a pivoted lever 10. A spring 11 secured at one end to the lever 10 and at the other end to a fixed part, such as the guide bar 10, will tend to normally hold the contact point 9 away from the button 8, as shown in Fig. 1. 12 is an operating rod pivotally connected at its forward end to the lever 10, and at its rear end to a tripping arm 13. The lower end 14 of the trip- I operator closes one of the switches 16. Ourrent flows immediately through the closed switch 7 to the motor, putting the latter in operation. The rotation of the sprocket wheel through the motor, the worm and the worm gear, will push the blocks E and E downwardly to the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1. The pin I travels in the recess e say to look at Fig. 1), until the link of the chain to which said pin 1 is attached gets to the other sprocket wheel H. Then the pin travels to the left of the recess 6 until it rests in the center position. Meanwhile, the arm 15 has likewise been moved down until it contacts with the lower end of the the right hand side (as we position, and in so doing,,moves in the slot 0 of the sliding block E. As this sliding block E is pulled back by the pin I it also pulls back the block E because said block E and the block E are still locked together at 6 e Pulling the block E back to its original position produces the reverse pull I on the rods R and consequently closes the doors B. As soon as the trip arm' 15 reaches the position shown in Fig. 3, it trips the arm 14, pushes the rod 12 and the lower end of the lever 10 against the tension of the spring 11, the contact point 9 pushes the button 8 into the switch 7, the circuit is broken and the motor stops.
It will thus be seen that there is manual operation for closing the circuit, automatic movement of the mechanical parts driven by the motor to open the doors or to close the doors, as the case may be, and that the circuit is automatically broken and the movement of the motor stopped whenever the doors are in the full closed or position. I
If for any reason it is desired to move the parts manually, without the use of the motor, or if the motor is out of order, a chain J trailed over a pulley 17, connecting with the bell crank lever 18, may be pulled; thusdisengaging the locking hook e from the catch 6 Thereuponthe block E may be moved by hand and the door opened or closed as the case may be. I claim as my invention:
1. A device for opening and closing a door, comprising in combination with a hinged door, an electric circuit includin a motor, a pair of sprocket wheels one 0 which is operatively connected to the motor, an endless sprocket chain on said wheels, a fixed support, parallel guide ways secured to said support, a'block movable in said guides and operatively connected with a part of the sprocket chain to travel therewith, a bar pivotally connected at one end to said block and at its other end to the hinged door, a switch for closing the circuit and means for automatically breaking the circuit at a predetermined time in the movement of the sprocket chain.
2. A device of the character described. comprising an electric circuit including a motor, a normally closed switch and one or more normally open switches, a hinged door, a pair of guide ways secured to a fixed support, a pair of shafts, a revoluble sprocket wheel on each shaft, a sprocket chain upon said sprocket wheels a block movable between and longitudinally of the guide ways, operative means for actuating said chain from the motor, the block be-' ing secured to a part of the chain whereby said block is moved by and travels with the chain, means for automatically stopping the motor when the block has travelled the length of the guide ways in either direction and operative connections between said. block and the door. a

A device of the character described comprising an electric circuit including a motor, a normally closed switch and one or more normally open switches, a hinged door. a pair of fixed guide ways, a pair of shaft a revoluble sprocket wheel on each shaft, :1, sprocket chain upon said sprocket wheels a block movable between and longitudinally of the guide ways, operative means for actuating said chain from the motor, operative means on a part of the chain actuating said block by and with the chain, means for automatically stopping the motor when the block has travelled the length of the guide ways in either direction and operative connections between said block and the door, said chain actuating means including a worm on the motor shaft and a worm gear on one of the sprocket wheel shafts.
5. A device of the character described comprising an electric circuit including a motor, a normally closed switch and one or more normally open switches, a hinged door, a pair of fixed guide ways, a pair of shafts, a revoluble sprocket wheel on each shaft. a sprocket chain upon said sprocket wheels a block movable between and longitudinally of the guide ways operative means for actuating said chain from the motor. operative means for actuating said block by the movement of the chain, means for automatically stopping the rnotor when the block has travelled the length of the guide ways in. either direction and operative connections loetween said blocks and the door, said automatic stopping means including a contact arm A at one end of the guide ways for opening the normally closed switch, a lever Connected thereto, a lever at the opposite end of the guide ways, a rod connected with each lever and a" detent connected .with and travelling with the sprocket wheel adapted to contact with said levers.
6.
