BELT-RETAINING HOOK.
Application filed October This invention relates to a removable clip for the waistband of a trouser, having on the outer sidea hook adapted to retain the belt in position on the trousers band and v prevent it creeping up thereover.
The device is particularly described in the following specification, reference being made to the drawings by which it is accomplished, in which Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the clip.
Fig. 2illustrates a slight modification, and
Fig. 3, a further modification in the man nor of attachment of the clip to the trouser band.
In these drawings 2 represents the clownwardly turned hook which is designed to retain the belt and prevent it creeping upward off the band of the trousers. The downwardly turned shank 3 of this hook is doubled upward on itself as at 4-, and above the bend of the hook 2 is turned downward again as at 5 to receive between 4 and 5 the waistband of the trousers.
To the lower end of this downwardly bent portion 5 is hinge-connected at 6 a presser member 7, the upper edge of which is slightly turned toward 4; to engage and press the trouser band against the member 5. This presser member 7 may be forcibly pressed into contact with the trouser band by a member 8 slidable on 5, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, which may, as in Fig. 1 be tapered on the inner side to exert a strong pressure against 7 and the trouser band, when moved downward, or as in Fig. 2, may depend on the introduction of its thickness between 5 and 7 to effect this result.
Figure 3 shows a further modification wherein the pressure is applied to the trouser band against 4, by the short arm 9 of a lever member 10 pivotally mounted at 11 in the end of 5. lVhen 10 is turned Serial No. 61,219.
through which the belt passes entirely en- 7 closes the belt width, whereas in this case only the upper edge of the belt is retained preventing it from passing over the upper edge of the trousers band. This allows the belt to be more readily removed when desired.
Having now particularly described our invention, we hereby declare that what we claim as new and desire to be by Letters Patent, 1s:
protected in A meanspreventing a belt from moving over the upper edge of a trousers waistband, said means comprising a downwardly turned relatively short hook bent from a strip of sheet metal the hook being adapted to engage and retain the upper edgeof a bolt, the shank of said hook being doubled on itself to pass down the outer side of the trousers waistband and thereafter turned downward parallel to the shank within the trousers waistband, a presser member hinge-connected to the lower end of the last named downwardly directed portion, and means slidably mounted on such portion for forcibly holding the presser member against the trousers waistband.
In testimony whereof we aflix our signatures.
EDWARD A. KNIGHT. REUBEN 13. SCOTT.
