I mounted on the pivoted plate,
JOHN P. WALTON, OF PILOT MOUND, MANITOBA, CANADA.
GARMENT-SUPPORTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 3, 1911.
Application filed May 18, 1910. Serial No. 562,050.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J oI-IN P. VVAL'roN, a subject of Great Britain, and resident of Pilot Mound, Manitoba, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment-Supporters; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention to be hereinafter described relates to garment supporters.
Broadly speaking, it comprises a base plate or member adapted to be connected to a suspender loop or the like, a plate pivotally connected to the base, a hook pivotally a leaf hinged to the base plate and provided with an opening for the hook, and a clip slidably mounted on the base plate and adapted to engage over the edges of the leaf.
In order to more clearly disclose the construction, operation, and use of the invention, reference should be had to the accompanying drawings forming part of the present application.
Throughout the several figures of the drawings like reference characters designate the same parts.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a front view of the device with the parts in operative position; Fig. 2 is a side elevation of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a front view of the device with the base plate swung at right angles; Fig. 4 is a view similar to Fig. 2, with the base plate removed; and Fig. 5 is a plan view of the leaf, detached.
Referring to the drawings in detail, 1 indicates a base plate provided with a stud or button 2 at one end adapted to pass through the loop of a suspender. Pivotally mounted on the base plate is an offset plate 3 in the free end of which is revolubly mounted a hook 4. To the lower overturned end of the offset plate is hinged a leaf 5. This leaf is provided with a large V-shaped opening 6 leading from its hinged end toward its opposite end. This opening is adapted to permit the passage of the hook 4, when the hook is in the dotted line position shown in Fig. 4. After it has been passed through the opening it may be turned to the full line position of the same figure and its return through the opening will be prevented. A sliding clip 7 is mounted on the base plate 1 and adapted to engage the edge of the leaf 5. The free end of the base plate 1 is turned over to form a guard 8 to inolose the point of the hook 4.
In using the device, the base plate 1 is swung to the position shown in Fig. 3. The hook 4 is then turned to the dotted line position of Fig. 4, the leaf 5 is then swung from r the full line position of Fig. 4 to the dotted line position of the same figure, the edge of the garment is then passed on to the hook, the leaf 5 is then swung back to the full line position of Fig. 4, the hook turned to the full line position and, the base plate 1 is then swung back beneath leaf 5 so that the guard 8 passes over the end of the hook, and, lastly, the clip 7 is slid down to the position of Figs. 1 and 2, and all the parts are held in operative position.
It is thought that the operation and use of the invention will be clear from the preceding detailed description.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
1. A device of the character described comprising, a base plate, an offset plate pivotally mounted on the base plate, a hook pivotally mounted in the offset plate, a leaf hinged to the offset plate and provided with an opening for the passage of the hook, and a clip slidably mounted on the base plate and adapted to engage the edges of the leaf to lock the parts against movement.
2. A device of the character described comprising, a base plate, an off set plate pivotally mounted on the base plate, a hook pivotally mounted on the off set plate, a guard member projecting from the aforesaid base plate and adapted to inolose the point of said hook, a leaf hinged to said ofi' set plate and provided with an opening for the passage of the hook, and a clip slidably mounted on the base plate and adapted to engage over the edges of the leaf to lock the parts against movement.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two witnesses.
JOHN P. WALTON.
