This" invention relates to advertising or display devices and has particular reference to foldable cardboard or like structures cheaply from a material best suited for the purpose and which is ca able of being printed upon or decorated or display purposes to the best advantage.

More specifically, the invention relates to a cardboard structure or the like having. or-

tions creased or scored for bending or old ing and other portions so stamped or cutout as to form receptacles or keepers for articles of merchandise or other commodities, coincident with the folding or bending of the sheet or card.

Among the obects of the invention is to provide a box filer or holder in the nature of a rack having receptacles or pockets usually arranged in airs for theholding of umt items of mere andise such as vials, pe'ncils, lip sticks, and so on, each receptacle or pocket bein so constructed as to hold the article relia ly from accidental dropping or loosening from its place but 'permittin it to be withdrawn or replaced when an as often as desired.

With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists in the arrangement and combination of parts hereinafter described and claimed, and while the invention is not restricted to the exact details of construction disclosed or suggested herein, still for the purpose of illustrating a practical embodiment thereof reference is had to the accompanying drawings in which like reference characters designate the same parts in the several views, and in' which- Figure 1 is a perspective view ofone form of the invention, indicating the manner of formation of the blank and. the beginning of the folding or shaping operation.

Referring now more specifically to the drawings the display filler or holder shown in the first set of figures is made from a single sheet of material such as cardboard an so stamped as to provide a base 13 and integral pairs of fingers 14.- projecting laterally in opposite directions and in the same plane as t e base, the fingers and the base constitutin a rigid structure or as rigid as the stoc from which the device is made will warrant. Extending, however, laterally from the base are a series of strap-like keepers 15. These keepers are connected to the base along hinge lines or creases 16 and are parallel to one another on each side of the ase. Each finger 14 is stain ed or cut from the space between a pair of t e keepers on the same side of the base, and because of the creases 16 the series of keepers are adapted to occupy a plane at an angle to r the plane of the base and fingers. The outer ends of the kee ers are connected along hinge or crease ines 17 to a guard panel 18 and said guard panel is connected along another crease or hinge line 19 to a flap 20. 'By bringing the keepers and panel portions 18 upward or forward from the plane of the base and fingers and folding the panels rearward around the hinge lines 17 and the flaps rearward and inward toward each other, the flaps may be caused to interlock between the fingers and the keepers as shown best in Fi 3, making the device to a large extent se f-retained without the use of flue or special fasteners. This type of holder, however, is best adapted for use in connection with an outside container as indicated at C in the nature of a rectangular box into which the foldable holder is adapted .to fit.

The relative lengths of the keepers and fingers and the wi ths of the panels and flaps may be varied as may be desired according to the intention of the user of the article and particularly with reference to the nature of the articles to be carried or held in the box for sale or display purposes. In Figs. 1 and 2 the parts are so related that the panels 18 lie in dplanes oblique to the plane of the base an so as to provide for the panels to converge toward each other at their front edges whereby are produced under cut pockets 18' into which the ends of the article such as indicated at A in F1 2 may project with a sna ping fit. By th s means the articles are hel ma reliable position but with a full display of the entire article or practically the entire article, an item of great importance in the merchandising of items bearing their own distinguishin names or colors;

The pockets or receptacles for the merchandise in this instance may lack the interlockin or under cut features, but the articles are eld in place by the outer container C or its equivalent, from endwise movement, and from lateral movement by the edges of the keepers. The interlockin of the flaps 20 between the keepers and t e fingers may be the same as before described.

The flap 20 is connected as before to the base by means of keepers 15 and is adapted to be folded or interlocked between the tongue 14 and the keepers. The keepers in this instance are each jointed for bending or hinging at 17and are hinged at their ends along the lines 16 and 19 for the purpose above set forth. The space then left between the inner edges of the keepers is made to conform to the size of the special packa B so as to present the most pleasmg ispla and whereby the smaller package wi 1 be held in the most desirable osition in the box for symmetry. It will e noted in this form as shown Fig. 7 th that, as also will be true in Fig. 1, a ortion of the stock will be cut outat the en of the tongue or ger.

For the holding for display purposes of such articles as lead pencils, lip sticks,

sgptic pencils, fountain ens, and numerous b er analogous articles, prefer to produce the invention in the form shown in Fi 9 to 12 which while following the same 1nventive irlinciple as already explained, is one in w 'ch the locking folded one upon the other back of the base 13" and there glued or fastened as by eyelets 21 or their equivalent, making a rigid structure and one suitable for hanging or standing self-supported. From the blank in Fig. 12 it will be noted how the device is preferably cut, formin the fingers 14 and 14, the latter of whic are formed with rojections 14 which are an incident to the ormation of elliptical notches 15 in the edges of the keepers 15 while the keepers 15 are or may be substantially similar to those at 15 above described, cut therefrom are shown with rounded ends. The arrangement of the creases 16, 17, and 19 as well as the panels 18 and flaps 20 is practically the same as in Figs. 1 and 2 except as to the manner of fastening the fla s already described. The formation of t e kee ers 15" provides that a pronounced poc at is formed at one end of each rece tacle into which the pointp of an article such as a ncil P must be inserted endwise. In view of the fact that the latter mentioned end of the receptacle, the one having the elliptical opening, lies at an oblique angle to the lane of the base and fingers the encil will lie in uniform stable osition su stantially flat against the base an fingers at the bottom of 1ts receptacle and the elliptical seat for the lar er end thereof will conform to the roun ed formation of the pencil. Thus will be ro vided an effective interlock for the penc or other article while yet insuring practically complete display of the face thereof. To remove the pencil or other item from the holder the larger end thereof is grasped and drawn directly forward past or between the shoulders 15, and when the pencil is so released from such end of its receptacle, the opposite pocket or end of the receptacle will 0 course, permit the point of the to be withdrawn. As before stated, the relative angles between the planes of the keepers, the panels 18 if used, and the other parts of the structure may be varied in many particulars without departing from the spirit of the invention.

1. A display holder comprising a base, flaps spaced laterally therefrom, and receptacle-forming pairs of strap-like keepers connected integrally with the base and extending thence to and connected with the flaps, said flaps being foldable back of the kee ers, and means for holding the flaps in spci osition. l

2. display holder for merchandise composed of aunitary foldable sheet and comprising a flat base, a tongue projecting therefrom and in the planethereof, a pair of parallel keepers on opposite sides of the tongue and deflected at an angle to and extending to the plane of the base and tongue,

and a flap connected to the keepers remote from the base and constituting means to fix the keepers in article-holding position.

3. A display holder as set forth in claim 2 in which the flap is interlocked between the keepers and the tongue for fixing the holding position of the keepers.

4. A dis lay holder comprising a base, flaps space laterally therefrom and from each other, and receptacle-forming keepers connected integrally with the base and extegral with the keepers are struck, a flap extending parallel tendin thence to and connected with the flaps, t e flaps being foldable inward toward each other close to the base.

5. A display holder comprising a base, a tongue integral with the base and extending ers having their ends integral respectively with the base and flap, the keepers being bent to bring the flap beneath the same and to lie against theton, ue.

6. A display older comprising a base, flaps spaced laterally therefrom, and receptacle-forming keepers connected directly with the 'base and extending thence to and connected with the flaps, the keepers being bent to enable the flaps to lie adjacent to said base and parallel thereto.

7. A displa holder comprising a base, a pair of space keepers struck outward from the lane thereof, said keepers being bent to therefrom, a flap, and article-holding keeplie is osed at angles to the base and having 0t er angles with 'vertices in spaced relation to an ed e of sa1d base, a tongue inase andfrom WlllCh said to the. base and connected to the keepers in spaced relation to said vertices, said. fiap being so arranged as to lie underneath the keepers and against said tongue to form a re-enforcement for the base.
