ing the same.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a hanger of this character which is simple in construction, durable, and etficient for the purpose intended.
Other objects and advantages of this invention will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device embodying my invention,
Figure 2 is a top plan view of the same,
Figure 3 is an enlarged sectional view taken .on the line 33 of Figure 1, and
Figure 4 is an enlarged sectional view taken on the line 4-4 ,of Figure 2.
In the drawing, wherein for the purpose of illustration I have shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 5 designates the support bar which is of common design and may be constructed of,
wood, aluminium or other suitable material. The central portion of the support bar 5 is provided with a vertical bore adapted to receive the lower extension of a hook 6, the lower extremity having a nut 7 threadedly mounted thereon to prevent removal of the hook. Mounted upon the sides of the support bar 5 adjacent the hook 6 are two pairs of flange plates 8 provided near the lower extremities. with pointed extensions 9 and having openings 'formed therein for the purpose of permitting retaining screws 10 to be inserted therethrough and secure the same to the support bar. The pointed extensions 9 are to be forced to the side of the support bar and preventv rotation of the flange plates. The upper extremity oat the flange plates are also provided with openings to receive a transverse bolt 11 rotatably mounted within the said openings and preareoften badly damaged by falling the hanger upon which they are positioned.
vented from dis lacement by ;a nut 12.. Mounted longitu inally upon the support bar and secured to theupper portion ofthe bolts 11 are a pair of spring arms 13 secured.
to the bolts 11 by solderor the like, and retained normally against the support bar by means of a spring 14: engaging one extremity of the spring arm and fastened about the flange plates, The spring arms 13 as;
shown in Figure 1 are'comprised of comparatively'short actuating extensions 15 extending toward the center of the support bar. The comparatively long extension or clamping portion comprises an upwardly extending curved portion 16. extending downwardly and toward the extremities qt the support bar, the extremity being bent to form a loop 17 presenting a smooth engaging surface.
In use, the device is particularly adapted for light and delicate garments which may be placed upon the support bar while the spring arms 13 are in the raised positlon' and after the garment is correctly placed upon the bar the spring arms are permitted to assume their normal position upon the support bar, thus retaining the garment upon the bar and preventing dis- It is well known placement of the same. that garments, particularly ladies gowns, from It is especially noticeable in establishments handling ladies gowns and the'like where it often happens that the delicate fabrics are practically ruined by falling upon the floor. .With my improved device it is obvious that the garments will be retained upon the hangers and prevented from falling thus greatly preserving the appearance of the garment and preventing losses due to removal of the garment.
It is to be understood that the form of spaced above the surface of the bar, a resilof the plates, the intermediate portion of ient arm fixed to the bolt and lying between the arm at a point beyond the opposite the plates, a spring mounted at its end porside edges of the plates being upwardly 10 tions upon the plates at points between the bowed. bar and thebolt and having its intermedi- In testimony whereof, Ihave affixed my ate portion bearing against the under side signature. of the arm at a point beyond one side edge LILLIAN M. BOLING.
