M. S. OLSON com" lumen ATTACHMENT F ne March 20, 1925 Patented July 28, 1925.
MAR IN s. onsortor Mani/mean, Noam:- nAKo'ra.
mar-H NGER ATTACHMEN Application 'filed March 20,1925. Serial No. 16,990.
To all whom it may concemr I Be "it'known that I, *MARTIN S. OLsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Marmarth, in the county of Slope and State of North Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements inca Goat-Hanger Attachment, of which the following is a specification. V 1
- :This invention relates to improvements'in garment hangers and is more particularly adapted to an attachment for a coat hanger, the purposeof which isto p-rovidea means for retaining the's'hape of the coat While the same is supported on the'hanger.
One ofthe important objects of the present invention is to provide a coat hanger attachment of the above mentioned character, which will in no way interfere with the supporting of the garment on the hanger, the attachment providing'a means for re-j taining the shapeof the lapels of thecoat.
A further object isto provide a' coat hanger attachment of the above mentioned character which includes a means for adjusting the several parts comprising the same in order to accommodate various sizes of co ats V H A further object is'to provide a coat hanger attachment of the above mentioned character, which is simple in construction, inexpensive, and furthermore adapted for the purposes for which the same is designated.
Other objects and advantages of this invention will become apparent during the course of the following description.
I In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals designate like parts throughout the same: b
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the attachment embodying my invention showing a manner in which the same is associated with a coat hanger. V Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken approximately on line 2-2, Fig. 1, and
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary detail of the'lower portion of the attachment.
In the drawing wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 1 designates a coat hanger of the usual construction on which is adapted to be supported the coat and other garment.
My improved attachment comprises an upper and a lower bar of. flat metal, the
the usual manner for the-purposes of An additional vertical for vertical slidable movement on the lower bar and any suitable means suchas is shown at. 9 is provide'dfor adjustably securing and same being designated by the numerals 2 and. 3 respectively. The adjacentiendsof said bars are hingedly connected together as illustrated at 4. The upper bar 2 is twisted intermediate its ends as illustrated at 5, the upper end of the upper bar being secured to the'central portion of the coat hanger'l on one sidethereof as illustrated at6. The twisted portion '5 is disposed at substantially'right angles to the upper bar 2 and provides a finger'engaging portion.
The purpose of the twisted portion 5 is to provide a means for holding the coat hanger while placing a coat thereon. The lower portionfof the upper bar is disposed downwardly adjacent the'horizontal crossbar or rod 7 associated with the coat hanger 1 in su porting a pair of trousers. p
bar 8 is adapted supporting the slidable bara8 on the lower bar 3. Lateral " extensions 10 and 11 are formedon the lowerend of the slidable bar 8 at the respective sides thereof. A pair of relatively short 'barsx12 and 13 are adjustably supported on the lateral extensions 10 and 11 respectively. A button '14; is attached to the bar 12 on the outer face theref overlapping lapels as is clearly illustrated in Fig. 1.
The hinge 4 permits the lower bar 3 and the slidable bar 8 to be swung upwardly so as to permit the coat to be placed on the coat hanger in the usual manner. When the parts are arranged as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawing thercoat and more particularly the lapels thereof will be maintained in'proper shape 'while the garment is on the coat hanger. The attachment may be readily adjusted to accommodate various sizesof coats and also the adjustment of the 7 short bars enables the same to be readily placed in condition for cooperation with the button hole and button of the coat.
WVhile I have shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that various changes in the size, shape and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:
1. A coat hanger attachment including a supporting bar secured at its upper end on said coat hanger, a relatively long bar adjustably associated with the lower portion of the aforementioned bar, lateral extensions formed on the respective sides of the lower portion of said last mentioned bar, and means carried by said lateral extensions for engagement with the uppermost button hole and button of a coat supported on the coat hanger.
2. A coat hanger attachment including a supporting bar secured at its upper end on said coat hanger, a relatively long bar adjustably associated with the lower portion of the aforementioned bar, lateral extensions formed on the respective sides of the lower portion of said last mentioned bar, means carriedloy said lateral extensions for engagement with the uppermost button hole and button of a coat supported on the coat hangergsaid last mentioned means comprising a pair of relatively short bars adjustably supported on said lateral extensions, one of said shortbars being provided with a button for engagement with the uppermost button hole on the front of the coat, the other relatively short bar being provided with a slot-for detachable engagement with the uppermost button on the coat.
3. A coat hanger attachment including a supporting bar secured at its upper end on said coat hanger, a relatively long bar adjustably associated with the lower portion of the aforementioned bar, lateral extensions formed on the respective sides of the lower portion of said last mentioned bar, means carried by said lateral extensions for engagement with the uppermost button hole and button of a coat supported on the coat hanger, the upper portion of said support ing bar being twisted to provide a finger gripping portion.
4. A coat hanger attachment comprising a pair of flat bars the same being hingedly secured together at their adjacent ends, the upper bar secured at its upper end to the coat hanger, the intermediate portion of said upper bar being twisted to provide a finger gripping portion, a relatively long bar adjustably associated with the lowermost of said hingedly connected bars, lateral extensions formed on the lower end of said adjust-able bar, and relatively short bars adjustably associated with said lateral extensions, said relatively short bars being provided with a button and slot respectively for detachable engagement with the uppermost button hole and button respectively of a coat supported on the coat hanger.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
MARTIN s. OLSON.
