This invention relates to a rim cleaning tool and it is an object of the invention to provide a device of this kind intended for use in removing dirt, gravel, rust or the like from therim of a wheel- It is also an object of the invention to provide a device of this kind provided with means whereby the clincher part of the rim may be effectively cleaned as well as the center and edge portion.

Furthermore, it is an object of the invention to; provide a device of this kind comprising two separable plates adjustably held to a block or handle by a member common to all of the plates.

The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved rim cleaning tool whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, as will be herinafter more fully set forth.

The novel features of my invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.

In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein l igure 1 is a view in perspective illustrating a tool constructed in "accordance with an embodiment of my invention, with one of the working plates extended;

Figure 3 is a view in perspective of the device as herein disclosed with the clincher scraping element extended.

As disclosed in the accompanying drawings, 1 denotes an elongated block or handle member having provided in a face thereof a groove or channel 2 open at one end of the block or member 1 and having its opposite end in communication with a pocket or recess 3 formed in such face of the block or member 1 and positioned as substantially the longitudinal center thereof. Arranged within said groove or channel 2 is an elongated plate 4 provided in its central part with a longitudinally directed slot 5 through which is directed a holding bolt 6 disposed through the member or block 1. The opposite ends of this elongated plate 4 are provided with the inwardly directed reverted flanges 7 each serving as a scraper member adapted to be worked w1th1n the clincher flange of a rim to free the same from dirt,

. gravel, rust or the like.

It will be understood that the plate 4 may be readily reversed to permit the use of either of the flanges 7 and when one of such flanges is in use, the plate is extended beyond an adjacent end of the member or block 1. When the plate 4 is not in use, the same is preferably fully retracted with respect to the block or member 1 with the outermost flange 7 in close proximity to the adjacent end of the block or member 1.

The bolt 6 is of a length to project beyond the opposite face of the block or handle member 1 and isdisposed through an elongated slot 8 disposed lengthwise of a second elongated plate 9, said plate 9 being of a width substantially equal to the width of such face and having one end portion provided with a chisel edge 11 adapted to be used in cleaning the central portion of the rim. The opposite end of the plate 9 is disposed transversely on a predetermined curvature and formed into a knife edge, as at 10, to provide means for operating upon an edge of the rim.

The plate 9 is of a length substantially coextensive with the length of the member or block 1 and when not in use said plate 9 preferably is disposed in overlying relation with respect to said block or member. When either of the working ends are to be used, said plate 9 is extended beyond an end of the block or member 1 and when the chisel edge 11 is extended the opposite end of the plate preferably has close contact with the transverse shoulder 12 suitably arranged upon the block or member 1.

Coacting with the free end portion of the bolt 6 is a wing nut 14 or the like which, upon proper manipulation, effects the required clamping of either of the plates 4 or 9 in desired adjustment with respect to the block or handle member 1.

In order that the chisel edge 10 may readily get under or work within the clincher part of a rim, the plate 9 inwardly of said edge 10 but in relatively close proximity thereto is provided in its side marginal portons with the notches or recesses 15.

From the foregoing description itis by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and operated, and it Will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification Without; departing from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I d'o-not Wish to be understood as limiting: myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as hereinafter claimed.

I claim 1. A rim cleaning tool comprising, in combination, a handle member, a plate overlying a face of said handle member, means for holding said plate to the handle member, said means permitting an end portion of the plate to be projected beyond the handle member, the extremity of said end portion constituting a scraping medium, said handle member being provided with a shoulder with which the opposite end of the plate abuts When said plate is projected beyond the handle member.

2. A. rim cleaning tool comprising, in combination, an elongated handle, a plate, and means for adjustably connecting said plate with a handle, an end portion of the plate being providedith a scraping medium, said plate inwardly of the scraping medium being provided wvith notches in its side marginal port-ions.
