IRONING COMB.
Application filed December 18, 1924. Serial No. 756,650.
' To all whom 2 2, may concern:
application of the heat from the ironing sur- Be it known that I, ISAAC L. IVOLKOW, citizen of the United States, residing at San Carlos, county of San Mateo, State of Cali' fornia, have invented new and useful Improvements in Ironing Combs, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is particularly adapted to straighten kinky hair and to smooth rumpled or disarranged hair. This I accomplish by combining with conventional comb teeth an ironing member whereby as the comb is drawn through the hair the ironing member presses against the hairs which are straightened by the pulling of the teeth and by the face the hair is constrained to retain its straightened shape.
By referring to the accompanying drawings my invention will be made clear.
Fig. 1 is a side view of one form of the ironing comb of my invention.
Fig. 2 is an end view of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a rear view of Fig. 1 showing the ironing comb attached to a conventional handle.
Figs. 4, 5 and 6 are similar to Figs. 1, 2 and 3 showing a modification of my invention.
Throughout the figures similar numerals refer to identical parts.
A plurality of conventional comb teeth are indicated at 2, extending in a curved plane from the body member 1. This body member is preferably provided with a relatively flat surface 6, on one side and a similar surface opposite thereto, which however, is provided with a plurality of secondary teeth preferably in alignment with the teeth 2. i
The ironing member is preferably made i of metal and I have found bronze well suited to this purpose. It'is provided with threaded end sockets 4, 5, into either of which the handle rod 7 extending from the handle 8 may comb is used-right or left.
be threaded according as the In the form illustrated in Figs. 4, 5, 6, the
. teeth are straight as indicated at 9, and both surfaces 13, 16 of the ironing member are preferably provided with secondary teeth.
In this form of my invention it is necessary'to have but one threaded socket as shown in 4. I, The device is used by heating the ironing are drawn through the hair stretching it tight against the ironing surface 3 in the case of forms shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 3 or against the surfaces either 13 or 16 where the form shown in Figs. 4, 5', and 6, is used. By' fitting the handle member in socket?) instead of in the socket 4, the head of Fi 3 may be reversed for right and left hand use. I
-lVl1ere straight teeth are employed this -reversal of the handlemember is not necesrow of teeth upstanding therefrom and a second row of relatively shorter teeth on said body and upstanding at right angles from said first named teeth.
2. An ironing comb comprising a metallic body having smooth ironing portions and a row of teethupstanding therefrom and a second row of relatively shorter teeth on said body and upstanding at right angles from said first named teeth and a smooth portion ofsaid body exposed between said rows.
ISAAC L. VVOLKOW.
