D. E. HOGAN APRON Filed Aug. 9, 1923 Witness elf tow m3 0 Patented May 13, 1924.
UNITED STATES DENNIS EDWARD HOGAN, OF FARIBAULT, MINNESOTA.
APBON.
Application flled Aug'ust 9, 1928. Serial No. 858,558.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DENNIS E. HOGAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Faribault, in the county of Rice and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Aprons; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention has for its object to provide an extremely simple and inexpensive, yet an efficient and desirable apron having a detachable sheet of paper or other inexpensive material, so that this sheet may be detached and destroyed when soiled or worn, and replaced by another, provision being made whereby the front sheet may be attached to a rear backing sheet, by forcing ordinary bifurcated paper fasteners through the previously imperfora'te front sheet, passing these fasteners through eyes in the back sheet, and clinching them upon the latter.
With the foregoing in view, the invention resides in the novel subject matter hereinafter described and claimed, the description being supplemented by the accompanying drawing.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a complete apron constructed in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view on line 22 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the backing sheet.
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the detachable front sheet, as it appears before attachment to the backing sheet.
In the drawings above briefly described, the numeral 1 designates a comparatively heavy backing sheet formed of fabric, rubber, or other desired material, the upper end of this sheet being provided with suitable ties 2 who assed around the users body. At suitabIe locations, preferably along its u per edge and the upper portions of its vertical edges, the backing sheet 1 is provided with eyes or grommets 3.
Applicable to the front side of the backing sheet 1, is a relatively light front sheet 4 which is preferably formedof paper, said sheet 4 being imperforate as manufactured and placed on sale. It is intended however, that ordinary bifurcated paper fasteners a shall be forced, through the sheet 4 and passed through the eyes 3, the free ends of the fasteners being clinched upon the rear side of the backing sheet, thus holding the front sheet 4 in place. When'this sheet is soiled or Worn, it may be detached and a new one readily substituted, which is of great advantage, when the apron is used for numerous purposes.
As excellent results are obtainable from the details disclosed, these details are preferably followed, but within the scope of the invention as claimed, minor changes in size, proportions, etc., may be resorted to.
I claim An apron comprising a backing sheet of flexible material, eyelets secured in said backing sheet adjacent the edges thereof, a removable front sheet normally unperforated and fitting against and covering the outer face of said backing sheet, and removable fasteners passed through said front sheet and eyelets to relnovably hold the front sheet in place.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto affixed my signature.
DENNIS EDWARD HOGAN.
