Description

Aprl 1924.
l W. R. WILSON cAs'ING CLAMP Filed Dec. 11, 1922` Patented Apr. l, 1924.
PATENT OFFICE.
WALTER R. WILSON, F HENBYETTA, OKLAHOMA.
CASING CLAMP.
Application led December 11, 1922. Serial No. 606,129.
To all whom t may concer/n Be it known that I, WALTER R. VVILsoN,
a citizen of thc United States, residing at Henryetta, in the county of Okmulgee and State of Oklahoma, have invented a new and useful Casing Clamp, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to well casing clamps or supports and aims to provide a novel form of support adapted to grip the casing at a point below the coupling thereof to support the well casing in an upright position.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a separable clamp of this type, which may be readily and easily applied to a well casing, and one which may be readily and easily removed.
A further object of the invention is to provide novel means for securing the sections of the clamp or support, eliminating the use of the usual securing bolts.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds7 the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a clamp or support constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the clamp embodies opposed sections indicated generally by the reference characters 5 and 6 respectively, each section being formed of sheet metal and provided with a curved portion 7 intermediate its ends, the ends of the respective sections extending appreciable distances beyond the curved portions.
Formed integral with the lower edges of the end portions of the section 5 are upwardly extended flanges 8 that are disposed in spaced relation with the ends forming a part thereof, to provide clearances for the straight edges of the section 6. The section 6 is formed with downwardly extended flanges 9 that lie in spaced relation with the ends forming a part thereof, to provide clearances for the upper straight edges of the ends of the member 5, so that when the sections 5 and 6 are brought into cooperative relation with each other, the flanges and straight edges of the sections will interlock to hold the sections together.
When the support is to be positioned, the section 5 is first placed adjacent to the casing to be supported, and the section 6 is placed on the opposite side of the casing directly under the coupling that rests on the casing when the casing is in its active position.
As the casing is lowered, the section 6 moves therewith to the end that the straight edges of the section 6 move between the flanges 8, while the straight edges of the section 5 move between the flanges 9 and the end sections forming a part thereof.
The sills on which the clamp rest are indicated at 10 and may be disposed at the top of the well and anchored against movement, in any desired and well known manner.
From the foregoing it will be seen that if it is desired to remove the support, it is only necessary to slide the sections vertically in opposite directions, eliminating the necessity of cutting bolts which have become rusty to such an extent as to prevent the removal of the nuts thereof by unthreading.
What is claimed as new is:
l. A clamp for supporting well casings comprising opposedv sections, each of said sections including a length of sheet metal formed with a central curved portion and laterally extended end sections, upwardly extended lianges formed on the lower edge of one section, downwardly extended flanges disposed on the upper edge of the opposed section, and the edges of one section adapted to engage under the flanges of the adjacent section.
2. A clamp for supporting well casings comprising opposed sections, each of said sections having a curved casing engaging portion, interlocking anges carried by the sections for securing the sections together.
3. A Clamp for Supporting Well casings In testimony that I claim the foregoing comprising opposed sections, @zich of said as my own, I have hereto affixed my signaseotions having a curved casing engaging ture in the presence of a Witness. portion, flanges carried by each section, the
5 flanges of one section adapted to grip the VALTER R. ILSON.
opposed section tov secure the sections to- Vitness: gather. L. G. COSPER.
