A further object of the invention is to provide a merchandise guard which may be easily and readily manufactured at a relatively small cost from gauge iron or steel or other suitable material.

A still further object of my invention is to provide a merchandise guard which cannot be bumped out of place by a truck.

With the foregoing and other objects in view that will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts illustrated in the accompanying drawing and more particularly pointed out in the ap-` pended claim.

Referring to the drawing for a more particular description of my invention and in which drawing like parts are designated by like reference characters throughout the several views, the device is preferably constructed from a single blank or piece of gauge iron, steel or other suitable metal and comprises the two corresponding upright rightangularly disposed straight flat side members 1 and 2, the straight flat horizontal transverse bottom member 3, which extends inwardly at right angles from the lower end T of the side member 2 somewhat beyond the outer edge 4i of side member 1 and the vertical elongated transverse tongue 5 which is formed by a continuation of the bottom member 3. The tongue 5 fits against the inner face and lower end of the side member 1 and these parts are fastened together by rivets G or other equivalent means. The tongue 5 corresponds in length to the bottom member Sand accordingly extends a correspondng distance beyond the outer edge 1i of the side member 1. y

The metal guards are made in pairs and when applied the right-angularly disposed side members 1 and Q tit over and embrace the outer exposed corners of the lower cases A of the piled merchandise and protectithe same against damage as a result ofbeing bumped by trucks running through the aisles in the ware-houses in which such merchandise is stored. The transverse bottom member 3 lits under the bottom of the corresponding case of piled merchandise and the tongue 5 against the adjacent side or end of the case.

inthe event the guard should be bumped out of place by a truck, the whole stack of merchandise must be taken down and re-piled in order to ,replace the guard. Hence, in order to overcome or eliminate this objection, the side walls 1 and 2 as well as the bottom wall 3 of the guard is formed with a plurality of inwardly projecting hook-like teeth or barbs 7 which are punched out of the metal by a special punch (not shown). The tongue 5 may also be provided with one or more teeth or barbs 7.

From the foregoing description taken in connection with the drawing, 4it is thought that the construction, operation and advantages of the invention will be readily understood wit-hout requiring a more extended eX- planation.

Various changes in the form, proportions and minor details of construction may be rei sorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention as defined in the appended claims.

Having described the invention, what is claimed as new and desired to secure by Letters Patent, is:
