Be it known that l, HENRYVAPP'EL, a lcitizen of the United States, residing at Plainview, in the county of Wabasha and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Box-Cover Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in box cover fasteners.

One object of my invention is to provide simple and eicient means which may be employed as a permanent fastener for the box lid or cover, but which may be released by the operator to permit the removal of the cover.

Other objects of my invention will appear as the nature of the same is better understood, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this application in which- Figure l is a side elevation illustrating the application of my invention.

Referring to the drawings for a more particular description of my invention and in which drawings like parts are designated by like reference characters throughout the several views, A designates a rectangular box, of any desired type, shape or size, B the lid or cover and O my improved fastening means, as a whole. The cover B is provide on its bottom face at opposite ends with the transverse cleats or strips 1 which, as shown, fit against the end walls 2 of the box, the purpose of which will be apparent.

Depending loop shaped clips 3 are carried by the strips ,l and the latter formed in their bottom edges with central notches or ref cesses 4 to accommodate said clips. The end walls 2 of the box are also provided with Vcross bars or strips 5 on which the strips l rest and said strips 5 carry the vertically disposed fastening bolts 6 formed at ,their upper ends with the outwardly and downwardly curved or bent heads 7 adapted to hook over the clips 3 when the lid or cover is mounted in position. Other smaller or secondary coil springs 1l are arranged at right angles with the fastening bolts 6 with their inner ends seating in corresponding recesses or sockets l2 fo-rmed in the outer faces of the end walls 2 of the box and their outer ends bearing against the upper ends of the fastening bolts. These springs assist in holding the upper ends of the fastening bolts against casual disengagement with the clips.

Through the use of my invention, the box lid or cover may be quickly applied to the box andv cannot become unfastened without first projecting the vfastening bolts against the tension of the coil springs 8 and then turning the bolts to disengage the hooks i with the clips. i

The lower ends of the fastening bolts are provided with transverse openings a for the purpose of sealing the attachment by small wires (not shown) which are inserted through the bolts and the clips.

From the foregoing description taken in connection with the drawings, it is thought that the construction, operation and advantages of my invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation. y

Various changes in the form, proportions and minor details o-f construction may bel resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of my invention as defined lin the appended claims.
