F. FREDRICKSON COLLAR BUTTON ATTACHMENT OR GUARD Filed March 7. 1921 Java JW I enema @ct. 2.1923.
FRED FREDRICKSON,
COLLAR-BowenATTAGHMENT on GUARD; I 7
Application filed March '1,- 1921. Serial No. 450,510.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRED FREDRIQKSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois,,have invented new and useful Imfor its object the production of a device by means of which acollar can be buttoned and kept buttoned while the tie is being put in place.
A further object is the production of a,
device that will hold the button from being forced out of position while the tie is being tied.
A. further device of simple construction, and one that can be cheaply manufactured.
These and such other objects as may appear hereinafter are attained by my device, embodiments of which are illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which' Figure 1 represents a perspective View of my device in position on a collar;
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the device C of Fig. 1. 7
Like letters of reference indicate like parts in the several figures ofthe drawing.
Referring now to the drawingsa represents a collar, 7) the button, and 0 my improved device. The device, as shown in Figs. 1. and 2, comprises a curved strip or sheet of metal 0, having near its upper end a circular opening d with a-n extendedrslot c. The opening (Z is large enough to permit slipping the device over the button I), the device itself being pulled down, permitting the shank of the button to enter the extended slot 6, where it will be held against dis lodgment.
It is understood, of course, that the style shown in Figs. 1 and 2 may have-an extended end formed with an integral buttonhook, if
desired. The member 0 isslightly curved forward y from a pc nt immedia y bel object is the production of 'a' the button head clearing hole (Z, so as to prevent any danger of its slipping out of place when in u'se,j and-to conform to the contour of .the body: a

tingjon a collar and tie, greatzdifliculty has been experienced, especially in the event of the button hole being somewhat worn, or
the collar confining the tie too tightly, so that when the ends are pulled together in tyingor making up the tie, the two ends of the collar are pulled together, pulling one of the sides. away, from the button. This unfortunately happens after the tie is in place, in 'attemptin'gto adjust the tie, malnoften diflicult to rebutton the the tie in place.v
By the use of my device, however, after the collar is buttoned, my device isslipped over and'pulled down, with the shank of the button in the groove 6, then it is possible to pull the tie in' any desired way in evening up the ends or making them to conform. with each other, without any.- danger of unb-uttoning the collar. The device itself is curved, lays out of the way, and forms no obstruction whatever to the tyingof the tie; and when the tie is in proper" place,up snugly in position,-it isnccescollar with ing it very annoying to the wearer, as it is sary simply to push up my device until the I While I have illustrated a certain form and embodiment of my device, it is clear, of course, that other formsmay be used 'without departing from the spirit of my invention. J I n Having thus described my invention, I claim- Y 7 e5 As. a new article ofmanu-facture, a shirt collar lock and button guard comprising a fiat narrow stripof metal having anopening at one end thereof arrangedto be placed over the head of a collar button in use and I v l l I 7 1 56 look down behind the headso as to hold the button andrcoller in place, said opening being circular at one end of suifieient-size to pass over the head of a" collar button and extending intofeqrestrieting slot having per- -scr1bed my'name.
