Description

W. HUTCHISON.
COLLAR CLASP- AP.PL|CAT|0N FILED 11111.31. 1920.
Patented June 29, 1920.
lllfli'lA I II WILLIAM HU'rcHIsoN, or CLEVELAND, 01110.
COLLAR-CLASP.
Specification of Letters Patent. t te J 29, 0
Application filed. January 31, 1920.. Serial No. 355,298.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM HU'roHIsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Collar-Clasps; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in collar clasps and of the character especially adapted for taking the place of the collar button between the shirt band and the collar, and has for one of its objects the provision of a device of this characte r which can be easily and quickly applied and removed from the collar and shirt band and when applied will prevent the collar from moving upwardly in relation to the collar band and also will firmly grip both the collar and shirt band so as to obviate any danger of the same becoming detached or lost while in use.
Another object of this invention is the provision of a collar clas of the above stated character which shal be simple, durable and efficient, and which may be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost.
With these and other objects in view as will become more apparent as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described {and claimed.
For a complete understanding of my invention, reference is to be had to the following in which Figure 1 is a fragmentary vertical sectional view of a collar and shirt band illustrating my invention applied thereto,
Fig. 2 is a front elevation of acollar clasp constructed in accordance with my invention,
Fig. 3 is a rear elevation of the same,
Fig. 4 is a longitudinal sectional view taken on the line H of Fig. 2,
Fig. 5 is a vertical sectional view illustrating the curvature of the tongue and frame. Referring in detail to the drawings, the numeral 1 indicates a collar, while the numeral 2 indicates a shirt band to whichthe description and accompanying drawing,
collar is secured and said. band has the usual pocket 3. The foregoing construction relates to devices which my clasp 1 is adapted to secure together.
The fastener 4 includes a body 5 which has struck up therefrom a tongue 6 and which forms a clamping frame 7. vWhen forming the tongue from the body, a considerable amount of material is removed providing a comparatively large space between the frame and the tongue so that said frame and tongue can be readily sli ped over the lower edges of the collar an the pocket of the shirt band, for securing the collar to the shirt band, thus doing away with the usual rear button. The tongue 6 has its lower edge curved as illustrated at 8 and provided with teeth or serrations 9 adapted to bite into the inner face of the inner wall of the collar 1 when the clasp is applied. The tongue is also concaved on its inner face to cooperate with the teeth in gripping the inner wall of the collar.
The frame 7 adjacent the free end of the tongue 6 is pointed as illustrated at 11 so as to facilitate the insertion of the frame into the pocket of a collar band. The arm portions 12 of the frame adjacent the pointed portion '11 are directed outwardly or rearwardly of the tongue so that when said tongue is placed over the lower edge of the inner Wall of the collar the pocket of the shirt band will readily receive the offset and pointed end of the frame.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it will be noted that a clasp has been provided which will efliciently secure a collar to a shirt band and which can be cheaply andeasily manufactured by single stamplng process, thus rendering the device readily marketable at a very low cost.
It is also to be noted that the clasp does not utilize the button-holes of the collar or the shirt band in securing the collar in place which obviates worn or torn button-holes, and if desired the button holes in the back of the shirt band and collar can be dispensed with when manufacturing them. When the clasp is applied to the collar it does not interfere with the sliding movement of the necktie as there is nothing about the clasp for the necktie to catch into or bind against and when the collar is removed, the clasp remains on the collar and when replacing said collar, the frame 7 is firmly holds said collar in place, I
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it
Will be understood that minor changes in,
construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be made Without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
' Having thus described my invention What I claim is:
A collar clasp comprising a body having a' tongue struck up therefrom and defining a frame, said tongue being concaved and having a curved free end, serrations formed on the free end of said tongue, said frame being pointed at a point adjacent the'free end of the tongue and curved laterally of the tongue to permit said end to [be freely inserted Within the pocket of a shirt band; In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
