REGISTER FOR POOL TABLES.

T all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, PETER T. GRIN? s. a citizen ofthe United States, residing up an Zandt, 1n the county oil? l'i hatcom and State of l v ashington, have invented-ea new and useful Register for Pool l7ables, which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to pool or bi table attachments, the primary object oil invention being to provide an attachm to be moved to a position over the surface of the table in the path of travel of the usual rack when the same is being employed to rack the balls.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which will register each racl: of the pool balls, thereby indicating the number 01" games which have been played on the table.

lVith the foregoing and other objects in. view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawings Figure 1. illustrates a fragmental plan view of a pool table showing the invention as applied thereto.
Figure 2 illustrates a fragmental sectional view showing the attachment in side elevation.
Figure 3 illustrates a detail view at the locking means forming a part of the inven tion.
Figure 4 is a longitudinal sectional view through the attachment.
Referring to the drawings in detail the table to which the invention is applied is indicated by the reference character 5 and provides the support for the attachment.
The device comprises a hinge section 6 which is secured to the edges of the table, which hinge has connection with the arm 1321. Serial No. 465%,008.
which, when the device is in operation lies directly over the rail of the table, the forward end of the arm extending to a position beyond the rail, where the same has connectir "it-h the tubular body portion 8 of the Operating within the tubular body portion 8 a tubular member 9 which has an opening 10 adapted to register with the opening 11 formed in the body portion 8, so that when the openings 10 and 11 are in registry with each other, numerals on the tape 12 may be readily observed there through.
Connecting the side walls of the member 9, are the shafts 13 and 1d, the shaft 13 providing a support for the sprocket wheel 15 which moves thereon, while the shaft 1 L forms a support for the sprocket wheel 16 which is secured to the shaft. Mounted on the shatt is a ratchet wheel 17 which moves the shaft 14, to cause the rotation of the sprocket wheel 16, which imparts rotary movement to the sprocket wheel 15 through the medium of the tape 12, that is provided with a plurality of links 18 cooperating with the teeth of tl e sprocket wheels.
A shaft 19 is also supported within the tubular member 9, the shaft being provided with an opening to accommodate the rod 20, which rod has an offset portion 21 provided with a finger 22 which cooperates with the ratchet wheel 17 for moving the same. This rod also extends through an eye bolt 23 carried by the body portion 8, there being a retractable spring 24 mounted on the rod, which coiled spring normally holds the rod in position as indicated by Figure 4, one end of the spring 241. being connected with the head 25, while the opposite end of. the spring has connection with the member 23. A head 25 is formed at one end of the rod and provides a seat for the retractable spring 24:, so that movement of the tubular member 9 within the body portion 8, will cause the spring 24 to contract.
The body portion 8 is provided with :1 lateral opening which is adapted to register with a suitable opening provided in the tubular member 9, which openings when in registry with each other, accommodate the locking pin 26, which is held within the openings by means of the coiled spring 27 which bears against the bracket 28, the pin 26 being however provided. with a head 29,
affording means to permit the operator to remove the pin 26 from the registering openings to unlock the tubular member 9.
Positioned within the body portion 8 is a receptacle 30 adapted to receive the coins which are passed into the body portion through the slot 31.
In the operation of the device, the memher 9 is of a length so that the outer extrenr ity thereol will extend beyond a position on the table where the balls are racked, so that to accomplish the racking of the balls, it will be necessary to move the rack 32 rear- \vardly moving also the tubular member 9 so that when the rack is in aposition for rache ing the balls, the tubular member 9 is moved within the body portion 8 carrying with it the gears or sprocket wheels 15 and 16.
As the tubular member 9 moves within the body portion 8, the ratchet wheel 17 contacts with the finger 22 to cause the tape 12 to be moved one point, to bring a number under the openings 10 and 11 where it may be observed.
It might be further stated however that prior to the racking of the balls, it is necessary to remove the pin 26 from its opening in the tubular member 9, thereby permitting the tubular member to move within the body portion, it being understood that the pm loclcs the apparatus against movement to prevent the device from being used inde pendently of the registering mechanism.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is In a registering device for pool tables comprising a support, a hollow body portion having a slot formed therein, a receptacle within the body portion and having a slot registering with the first mentioned slot, a tubular member positioned in one end of the body portion and carrying sprocket wheels, said body portion and tubular member havingregistering openings, indicating means operated by the sprocket wheels, and adapted to be viewed through the register ingz openings, a ratchet wheel LISSOCiHtGtl with one of the sprockets, an operating: rod carrya finger adapted to cooperate with the ratchet wheel to rotate the same, upon movement'of the tubular member within the body p rtion, and means for returning the tubular member to its inactive position.
