SOCK-DRYING FORM.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 2, 1920.
Application filed March 19, 1918; Serial No 223,461.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHESTER J. Wr ps- WORTH, a citizen of the United States, res1ding at Painesville, in the county of Lake and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sock-Drying Forms, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a sock drying form comprising two sections which are hinged on the bias at the heel to permit the angular foot portion thereof to fold substantially parallel with and upon the leg ackage is obtained which is adapted to e conveniently stored away or carriedin a soldiers box or kit bag.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved sock drying form unfolded as in use, and Fig. 2 shows the device folded. Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional detail of the hinged joint,
and Fig. i is an edge view of the form unfolded in full lines,-and folded in dotted lines.
The invention comprises two fiat sections 2 and 3 made of wood or other suitable material 'of light weight and preferably open or perforated to any desired degree within the area circumscribed by the border edges 4 and 5 of each section respectively, and which sections are made to conform in outline to that of a sock or stocking as it appears when laid out flat. Thus, section 2 has an outer rounded border edge 4 conforming roughly to the leg of a sock or stocking, while the section 3 conforms to the foot, and each section also has a curved part 5' forming together a rounded heel corresponding to the heel of the sock or stocking. The foot 3 extends at an angle to the leg 2, and the degree of inclination may be greater or less but preferably at an obtuse an le, to permit the device to be easily inserte into a sock or stocking. Having a foot portion extended at a given angle to the leg, I rovide a joint 7 between the sections on a ine which extends at an inclination transversely of the form from the heel to the instep. The two sections are linked together at this joint line 7, either by cord or wire loops 8 which pass through adjacent openings 9 in said sections. This construction permits the foot 3 to be folded fiat upon the leg and in substantially parallel alinement therewith, and to project at an angle when unfolded, thereby making a thin and compact package adapted to be unfolded for use and to be folded and carried more conveniently and in less space than where the form is made'in one piece.
What I claim is:
1. A drying form for socks and stockings comprising a foot and a leg section having each a portion of the instep and the heel of the form therein and together shaped to the outline of a sock or stocking and said sec tlons having transversely inclined meeting edges looped into hinged relation.
2. A drying form, comprising two flat sections, one of which corresponds in outline to the leg of a sock and the other to the foot of the sock, and said sections linked together on a fold line running at an obtuse an le to the axis of the leg section and said sections having abutting edges on said fold line.
3. A sock drying form having a leg section and a separable foldable foot section extending at an obtuse angle therefrom and linked thereto at the meeting edges of said sections on an angular fold line adapting the foot section to be folded fiat and in strai ht alinement at its border ed es with the slde border edges of the leg section.
4. A sock drying form comprising separate leg and foot sections having each an instep and a heel portion and linked together at an inclination transversely of said sections between the instep and heel portions of said sections respectively.
Signed at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga, and State of Ohio, thislS day of February, 1918.
' CHESTER J. WADSWORTH.
