GARMENT-PRESSER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 25, 1916.
Application filed December 13, 1915. Serial a... 68,594.
Improvements in Garment'Pressers, of
provision of a pressing arrangement for garments and especially adapted for trousers, whereby the article is retained in a pressed condition as long as may be found desirable.
A further object of the device is the provision of a pressing board construction adapted for clamping engagement with the leg portions of trousers whereby the same are retained in their pressed and creased condition.
It is also designed by means of the present boa rd arrangement not only to compress the garment members such as trousers legs but also to provide a separating board for maintaining the parts of the garment separated.
and engaged by a smooth surface during the pressing operation, accommodating means being also arranged for the cuif portions of the garment.
With these general objects in view and others that will appear as the nature of the invention is better, understood, the same consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and then claimed.
In the drawings forming a part of this application and in which like designating characters refer to corresponding parts throughout the several views:-F1gure 1 is a perspective view of the foldable portion of the device in its open position. Fi 2 is a perspective view of the separating board detached. Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the cuff end portion of the device closed, and, Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the complete device partially broken away and illustrated operatively arranged with trousers legs inclosed therein.
Briefly described, the device consists of two oppositely-arranged presser boards 10 and 11 hingedly connected together and adapted to be retained in closed folded arrangement uponcgarment members such as the trousers legs 12 and with a separating board 13 positioned between the garment members as bestillustrated in Fig. 4 of the drawing.
The main presser boards 10 and 11 as well as the separating board 13 are substantially rectangular in form and having slightly tapered corresponding end portions 14 slightly conforming to the tapered shape of the trousers legs when suitably creased and folded in the usual manner.
The boards 10 and 11 are connected by means of hinges 15 upon their adjacent edges while the opposite edge of the board 10 is provided with slotted fin rs 16 adapted to receive clamping bolts 1 pivotally atta'ched to are endsof similar fingers 18 upon the outer edge of the board 11, winged lock nuts 19 being threaded upon the said bolts. The hinge 15 connecting'the tapering ends 14 of the boards 10 and 11 are positioned at the outer ends of the lugs 15' so that-all of the hinges 15 are in alinement to permit the hlnging of the boards, as the boards would not fold with the hinges formed directly on the edge of the tapered ends 14. It is to be noted that the fingers 18 at the tapered ends 14 are longer than the other fingers so-that all of the fingers and winged locked nuts will be in alinement when the boards are folded. The boards 10 and 11 which may be formed of metal or any other desirable material are provided adjacent their tapered ends with plaits or folds 20 forming receiving grooves upon the inner faces of the boards 10 and 11 and arranged transversely thereof and adapted for the reception of the cuffs 21 of the trousers legs 12 or other garment members bein operated upon. The se arating board 13 Is un rovided with the on -receiv1ng plaits 20 an is of slightly less length than the boards 10 and 11 although conforming substantially to the dimensions thereof excepting in length as noted,
From this detailed description of the inventlon, the complete operation thereof will be apparent in that the trousers legs 12 being folded flatly in their usual arrangement either being ironed or otherwise, are arranged wit legs thereof and then flatly placed between the boards 10 and 11 which are closed thereon. The bolts 17 are then swung into engagement with the slotted finger 16 and the winged nuts 19 screwed down, thus the board 13 between the two v of the boards serves for the'purpose of pressing the inclosed part of the body-por-' maintaining the garment members securely in a pressed condition within the device and with the ends 21 arranged within the receiving portions of the boards 10 and 11 and outwardly of the adjacent tapered end of the spacing board 13. Each of the said boards is providedwith a V-shaped notch or cut-away portion 22 in its upper or untapered end 23 which notch may be employed for the accommodation of the remainder of the arment being pressed such as the body-portion of the trousers, the said notch of the separating board 13 accommodating the crotch portion of the trousers while the opposite side portions 24 of each tions thereof.
It will thus be apparent that a garment may be readily positioned in the present device, suchas for temporary use in retaining the shape of the garment over-night or for an extended time when desired to place the garment in storage.
"What I'claim as new is A device of the class described comprising substantially rectangular presser boards having correspondingly arranged garment accommodating notches at one end thereof and with tapered portions at each side of their opposite ends, hinge connections between one pair of adjacent parallel edges of the said boards, lugs carried by the adjacent tapered edges of the boards, hinges connecting the lugs and being in alinement with the aforesaid hinges, slotted keeper fingers and pivoted clamping bolts carried by the opposite edges of'the said boards, the finger connecting the swinging tapered ends being longer than the other ones to cause the same to be positioned in alinement when the boards are folded to closed position, the said boards being provided with transversely-arranged inwardly opening receiving portions for garment cufi's adjacent the tapered ends of the said boards, and a separating board for garment members of similar dimensions and of less length than the said presser boards having a garment crotch accommodating-notch at one end thereof, and positioned in clamping arrangement between the opposite portions of the garment when operatively positioned between the said presser boards.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
