UNITED s'rarns PATENT OFFICE.
I tonne. ron'rUnA, or GEORGE, IOWA,
PLOW.
Specification of LettersPaten t. Patented Feb, 24, 1920.
Application filed November 6, 1919. Serial No. 336,028. 7
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN J. FoRTUNA, a subject of the present Government of Bussia, residing at George, in the county of Lyon and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plows, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to plows provided with moldboards and having shares which can be disconnected from the. moldboards; and it consists in the novel construction and combination of the parts hereinafter fully described and claimed whereby the share is secured without the use of bolts as 0rdinarily used in devices of this sort.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a rear side view of a plow constructed according to this invention. Fig. 2 is a plan View of the same. Fig. 3 is a detail side view of the share; and Fig. 4C is a plan view of the same. Fig. 5 is a detail rear side view of the fastening Fig. 6 is a detail rear view of the angle-shaped bracket or frog, broken away to show the slot.
The moldboard 2 is a curved plate of any approved form, and the front member 3 of a frog is permanently secured to it by suitable bolts or rivets 4:. The rear member 5 of this bracket or frog has a landside 6 secured to its lower part, and its upper part has holes 7 for the bolts which secure it to any approved form of plow standard. The front member 3 of the bracket or frog has also a slot 8 at its lower part near the plow point.
The share 12 is usually formed. integral with the plow point, and it is separable from the moldboard and frog, so that it can be sharpened with facility. In 'order to avoid the use of bolts for securing the share in position, the share has a longitudinal bar 13 secured to its rear side at its upper part. The bar 13 has three distance-pieces 14 between it and the share, one at each end and one at its middle part, so that two slots 15 and 16 are formed between the-bar and the share. The distance pieces are permanently secured to the share by riveting or welding them to it. One distance-piece is arranged in the slot 8 of the frog so that the slot 15 has a portion 15' of the frog member 3 arranged in engagement with it and bearing against the share.v
' A curved fastening plate 18 is provided, and extends longitudinally of the share below the distance-pieces. This fastening plate 18 has a tongue 19 at its middle part which is slidable in the slot 16, and which is suitably curved to fit against the moldboard.
A bracket 20 is secured to the moldboard above the tongue 19, and 21 is an eye-bolt which is slidable in a hole in the bracket 20, and which has its lower end secured to the tongue by a bolt '22. The nut 21 on the eye-bolt is preferably provided with a handle 25 so that it can be operated without the aid of a wrench. A clip plate 26 is also bolted to the other end portion of the moldboard from the frog by a bolt 27, and is arranged to overlap the tongue and assist in guiding and supporting it.
The top edge of the share abuts against thebottom edge of the moldboard, and when the nut on the eye-bolt is screwed up, these parts are drawn tightly together by means of the fastening plate.
When the nut on the eye-bolt is slackened, and the eye-bolt is removed, the share can beremoved, the tongue 19 of the fastening plate being slidable in the slot 16. The share is easily separated from the moldboard and other parts, and is free of projecting bolt heads and nuts as ordinarily used for securing a share in place.
What I claim is:
1. In a plow, a moldboard having a laterally projecting member on one side, a share having a slotted bar on its rear side, a fastening tongue slidable in the slot of the said bar and having a head portion arranged below the slotted bar and bearing upwardly against it, and a screwthreaded bolt which operates to draw the tongue upwardly in the slot and secure it to the said laterally projecting member on the moldboard.
2. In a plow, a moldboard, a separable share having a bar at its rear side provided with a slot, a fastening plate arranged below the said bar and provided with a tongue which is slidable in the said slot, a bracket secured to the moldboard above the said tongue, and an eye-bolt slidable in the said. bracket and having its lower end secured to the said tongue.
3. In a plow, amoldboard, a frog secured to the moldboard and having a slot in its front member, a separable share, a longitudinal bar secured to the rear side of the share by three distance-pieces, thereby forming two slots one of which engages with the front member of the frog, a fastening plate arranged below the said bar and provided With a tongue which is slidable in the other slot, and means for securing the upper part of the tongue to the moldboard.
4. In a plow, a moldboard, a separable share having a bar on its rear side provided with a slot, a fastening plate arranged below the said bar and provided With a tongue which is slidable in the said slot, a clip plate secured to the nioldboard and overlapping one side portion of the said tongue, and 10 meansflfor securing the upper part of the tongue to the moldboard.
In testimony whereof I have aflixed my signature;
