Description

j J. EWASEN PLOW Filed larch l. 192s ATTORNEY I Patented Jan. 12, 1926.
JOHN EWASEN, OF MOSCOW, IDAHO.
PLOW.
Application filed February 24, 1923. Serial No. 625,662.
T 0 all 10 7mm it may; concern Be it known that I, JOHN EwAsnN, a sub ject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Moscow, in the county of Latah and State of Idaho, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Flows, of which the following is a specification.
My invention consists of a separable and detachable plow for use on any suitable plowbeam to which it may be properly secured.
My object is to pr vide a plow head that may be readily detached from the plowbeam for alteration or repairs, and in which the worn parts may be easily and cheaply removed and replaced by new ones without sacrifice of the body portion.
How I attain my object will be readily understood from a perusal of the following, and a study of the accompanying drawings, of which Fig. 1 is a plan view of the body portion, commonly called a shoe, and comprising an upright portion called a shank, and a horizontal portion called a. frog. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same, Fig. 3 is a rear view, and Fig. 4 is a front view. Fig. 5 is a plan view of the device showing the plowpoint and shares in place on the frog, whilst Fig. 6 is a side view showing the same bolted to the shank of a plowbeam.
More in detail, the upright porti! 1' of the shoe, the shank 1, has a vertical slot or channel 2 longitudinally through its rear for the reception of the plowbeam 3 to which it is to be attached, and has a hole 4: (or a series of holes) transversely through its sides and re istering with a corresponding hole (or holes) through the plowbeam shank for the insertion of the bolt 5 (or bolts) by whichit is secured thereto.
The frog 6 is a broadly flaring, triangular, and approximately horizontal portion sloping downwardly both forwardly and laterally from the lower end of said shank 1, and integral therewith, and broad at the rear, and tapering rapidly to a point at the front where the sloping sides intersect in the ridge 7. These sloping sides have portions extending rearwardly of said shank, forming wings 8 and giving an arrow-head appearance to the shoe. A diamond-shaped plowpoint 9 is fitted as a saddle on the ridge 7 and is sezured thereto and to the nose of the shoe by bolts or screws 10. Abutting said plowpoint, one on either side thereof, a pair of rectangular blades or shares 11 are secured at then forward ends to the sloping sides of the frog, and at their rearward ends to the wings 8, by means of the bolts or screws 12.
Bolts and screws being parts readily removable. it will be evident that the shoe may be easily detached from the plowbeam and from the plowpoint and shares.
Having thus described my invention, I claim the following as new and practicable, and pray that Letters Patent be granted me thereon:
1. In a plow having a beam wit-h a downwardly projecting shank, a detachable shoe secured to said shank by suitable bolts, and comprising an upright portion or stem having a longitudinal and approximately vertical slot through its rear for the reception of said shank, and terminating at its lower end in a substantially horizontal and triangular base portion or frog sloping downwardly therefrom both forwardly and laterally, and terminating in a ridge at its front, a diamond-shaped plowpoint saddled on said ridge and removably secured thereto, and a pair of rectangular shares similarly secured to the sloping sides of said frog and to the rearwardly extending wings thereof, and having their forward ends abutting against said plowpoint.
2; A plow comprising a beam, a substantially horizontal and flat bottomed shoe depending from said beam, triangular in shape, and provided with a vertical shank having a longitudinal slot in its rear for the reception of said beam, means for i'emovably securing said shank to said beam, downwardly and laterally sloping sides on said shoe, converging to a point at its front and forming an obtuse ridge at their intersection, and having wing portions at their rear ends extending obliquely and diver gently rearward of said shank, a substantially diamond-shaped plowpoint saddled on said ridge and said point of said shoe, and secured thereto by removable means, and a pair of rectangular shares obliquely mounted on said sides and said wing portions by removable means, and having their forward ends abutting against said plowpoint.
JOHN EWASEN.
