'PLOWSHARE.
' Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 9, 1920.
Application filed November 14, 1919. Serial No. 337,975.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, AUeUs'r C. SCHENK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Vancouver, in the county of Clarke and State of Washington, have invented new and useful Improvements in Plowshares, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my present sole invention is the provision of a construction that 1s simple, compact and durable, and in which the parts are so relatively arranged that a share point may be expeditiously and easily applied to and disconnected from a share body without the employment of any extraneous connecting elements and. Without the assistance of any tools other than an ordinary hammer or something that may be used in place of the same.
To the attainment of the foregoing, the invention consists in the improvement as hereinafter described and definitely claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, hereby made a part hereof:
Figure l is a side elevation showinga mold board equipped with my novel share; the share point being arranged as locked in working position to the share body.
Fig. 2 is an inverted plan view of the share body with the share point removed.
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the point, removed.
Fig. 4 is an end elevation of the share body per se.
Fig. 5 is an end elevation showing the share point removed. 7
Figs. 6 and 7 are transverse sections taken in the planes indicated by the lines 66 and 7-7, respectively, of Fig. 1.
Similar numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in all of the views of the drawings.
In accordance with my invention, the share body 1 is bolted to a mold board 1 and is provided in its lower edge with a channel 2 which extends throughout the length of the body, and is open at its ends. In the said channel and fixed with respect to the walls thereof are keepers 3. The lower edges of the said keepers are preferably flush with the lower edges of the channel walls.
My'invention contemplates the provision of a plurality of the share points 4 and the use of the said share points in succession on the body 1. The share point is preferably of the general form illustrated, and is characterized by a plurality of longitudinal spaced fastener lugs 5 on the upper edge of the point and in the longitudinal center thereof; the said lugs 5 being of less width than the upper edge of the point 4, so as to enable the said upper edge to bear solidly against the lower edges of the walls of the channel 2 in the body 1 when the share point is positioned for use. Each of the said fastener lugs 5 is provided with a rearwardly directed tongue 6, spaced from the upper edge of the point 4 and having its lower side, by preference, declined forwardly as illustrated.
In the practical use of my improvement, the share body nected to the lower edge of the mold-board, and the fastener lugs aresheathed in the channel 2 of the body 1, so that the fastener lugs 5 rest in rear of the keepers 3. Then when the upper edge of the share point is adjacent to and in substantial parallelism with the lower edge of the body 1, the point 4 1s driven rearwardly by hammer blows or the like imposed on its forward end, when the tongues 6 of the fastener lugs will ride over the keepers 3 and thereby effect connection of the point 4 to the body 1. It will also be observed that the wedging action of the tongues of the fastener lugs on the keepers 3 will have the eflect of drawing the upper edge of the point 4 snugly against the lower edge of the body 1, that the body and point will be rendered practically continuous, and at the same time 1 is arranged at and con-' with the result casual disconnection of the point from the body 1 will be precluded. Notwithstanding this, however, it will be observed that after hammer blows are applied to the rear end of the share point to disengage the tongues 6 of the fastener lugs 5 from the keepers 3,
the fastener lugs may be readily withdrawn from the channel? in the body and the point 4 removed to give place to a fresh point.
Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is:
1. In combination with a body having a longitudinal channel in its lower edge and also having keepers fixed in said channel at intervals in the length thereof, a share point abutting at its upper edge against the lower edges of the channel walls of the body and having in upright position on the longitudinal center of its said upper edge longitudinal vertical fastener lugs of reduced thickness sheathed in the channel and prop I p I p p p H 1,358,584 o vided with rearwardly extending tongues upper edge against the lower edge of the 10 the lower edges of which are forwardly debody and having fastener means extending clined, whereby the tongues in conjunction upwardly from its upper edge and sheathed with the keepers afford a wedging action. in the channel of the body and cooperating 2. In combination with a share body with the keeper means thereof to detachably adapted to be connected to a mold-board hold the share point in working position to 15 and having a longitudinal channel in its the body. lower edge and keeper 111621118 in said ohan- In testimony whereof I affix my signature. nel, a share point solidly abutting at its 7 AUGUST C.
