F. E. J. YOUNG.
COMBINED TOOTH BRUSH HOLDER AND TUMBLER SUPPORT.
APPLICA'HONVFILED APR. 17, 1918.

VMIIIIIIWIIIVIII FRANK E. J. YOUNG", OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
COMBINED TOOTH-BRUSH HOLDER AND TUMBLER-SUPPORT.
Application filed April 17, 1918.
T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, FRANK E. J. YOUNG, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, county of Cook,
and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Combined Tooth-Brush Holders and Tumbler-Supports, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a combined tooth brush holder and tumbler support, designed for use especially at a wash bowl or in a bath room. I
The object of my invention is the production of a device of the character mentioned, which will be of durable and economical construction, one in which the tooth brushes may be readily and easily arranged and in which the tooth brushes arranged therein will be shielded against dust and other impurities, while, at the same time, suflicient ventilation will be provided to afford complete drying of the brushes after use of the same. A still further object is the production of a device as mentioned, in which the brushes, when supported therein, will be arranged in independent compartments entirely separate from each other, and further, a device in which the tumbler, which forms a part thereof, will be adapted in addition to serving as a conventional tumbler to also serve as a closure or shield for the tooth brushes arranged in the holder.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which,
Figure 1, is a central vertical section of a device embodying the invention,
Figs. 2 and 3, sections taken on lines 22 and 33 respectively, of Fig. 1, except that the tumbler or closure has been omitted,
Fig. 4, a perspective view of one of the partitions of the device detached, and
Fig. 5, a side elevation of the upper plate of the tooth brush holder, detached.
The preferred form of construction, as illustrated in the drawings, comprises a bracket 6, one end of which is threaded into a base member 7 which is adapted to -be secured by screws or other fastening devices 7 upon any surface or object to which the Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 14:, 1919.
Serial No. 229,059.
device is to be applied. The outer end of bracket 6 projects upwardly, and upon the upper end thereof is arranged a circular plate 8 secured thereto by means of an extension member 9, the reduced threaded lower end ofwhich is threaded into the upper endof said bracket. The plate 8 is formed with a plurality of radially opening slots or notches 10 for the reception of the tooth brushes A, which are adapted to be supported by said plate as clearly seen in Fig. 1.
rranged at the upper end of extension 9 is a second circular plate 11, secured thereto by means of a screw 12. Interposed between the plates 8 and 11 is a plurality of radially disposed partitions 13, the lower ends of which are formed with lugs 14 which engage slots 15 provided in plate 8. The upper ends of partitions 13 engage with slots 16 formed for the reception thereof in the under side of plate 11. The arrangement is such, as will be seen, that the partitions 13 will be securely held against relative lateral movementthrough engagement with said slots 15 and 16, and by tightening the screw 12 theplate 11 may be forced down into clamping engagement with said partitions in order to positively lock the same in position. c
The partitions 13 result in the formation of a plurality of outwardly opening independent compartments, each of which is adapted to accommodate a tooth brush and in such a manner that adjacent tooth brushes may not come in contact with each other.
Loosely arranged over the upper end of the tooth brush support is a downwardly opening closure 17 in the form of an ordinary tumblcr, the same resting loosely upon the-plate 11, as clearly seen in Fig. 1. The closure 17 serves to close the outer ends of the tooth brush compartments, forming an ioo . Patent is moved when desired and used as an ordinary tumbler Wl'llCh 1s of exceptional convenience,
} especially in the cleaning of the teeth.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. 1, therefore, do not'wish to be limited to the precisedetails of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters 1. A tooth brush support, comprising a bracket having a Vertically disposedouter end; a horizontally disposed platemounted on said bracket, locking said plate in position; a second horizontally disposed plate at the upper end of said extension; 'a-plurality of radially disposed partitions ar ranged between said plates and forming a plurality of independent outwardly opening tooth brush compartments; and means for pressing said upper plate toward said partitions into clamping engagement therewith, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
