UNITED STATEsl PATENT OFFICEc ERANCIs AENCLD, CE EADDAM NECK, CONNECTICUT.
IMPROVEMENT IN SZTOVE-PIPE SHELVES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 131,241, dated September 10, 18472.
Be it known that I, FRANCIS ARNOLD, of Haddam Neck, in the county of Middlesex and in the State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stove-Pipe Shelf; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement 0f a stovepipe shelf77 and fixtures, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
. In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a stovepipe with my shelf and fastening attached thereto, and Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the fastening for attaching a shelf to the elbow of a stove-pipe.
A represents a rod, of any suitable length, provided with one or more L-shaped prongs, B B,projecting outward and upward, as shown. This rod is held on an upright stove-pipe, C, by means of metal bands D D, one at each end of the rod. The ends of each bandD are bent around blocks E E, and said blocks placed on the back of the stove-pipe C in lsuch a manner that each end of the metal band will pass over one block to the other and be bent around the outer edge of this. A wedge, G, is then in serted between the two blocks E E, under the ends ofthe band, and pressed downward, which securely fastens the rod to the pipe. H repre sents the shelf, made in any suitable form'and of any desired size, with a hole in the center of its inner edge through which the prong B is to pass.
One or more of these shelves may be used at one time, and they can readily be moved from. one prong to another, as occasion may require. 4
For the elbow of the stove-pipe I use an iron, A', provided with an upward-proj ecting prong, Bf, and fastened in the same manner.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the rod A, or its equivalent, having one or more prongs, B, metal bands D D, blocks E E, wedges G Gr, and one or more shelves, H, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 29th day of April, 1872.
FRANCIS ARNOLD.
