IMPROVEMENT IN STOVE-PIPE ELBOWS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 123,992, dated February 27, 1872.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, THOMAS HARTLEY, of Bridgeport, in the county of Belmont and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Stove-Pipe Elbows and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of the same, and in which Figure 1 represents a perspective view of the lower section of my elbow; and Fig. 2, a similar view of the upper section thereof. Fig. 3 is a view of the same, partly in section and partly in side view; and Fig. 4, avertical central section thereof, illustrating it as applicable to an upright pipe, the figure mentioned next before this showing it as applicable to a horizontal pipe.

Similar letters of reference in the several figures are used to designate corresponding parts.

This invention has reference to an improved stove-pipe elbow; and it consists of the parts of which itis constituted, when so constructed as that they shall form an elbow which shall be applicable to a horizontal pipe, and permit of being reversed, by which an elbow applicable to an upright pipe is formed, substantially as hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed.

To enable others to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe it.

In the annexed drawing, A refers to the lower section of my elbow, which is constructed with flanges a a, through which screw-bolts with nuts are designed to pass for fastening said section upon the stove. The upper end or extremity of this section is made into an inclined plane, and upon the ends of the same are formed flanges a a, having apertures. B refers to the upper section or half of the elbow, the lower end or extremity of which is an inclined plane, and hasflanges I) I), through which scrcws pass, entering the flanges a a upon the section A, and securing it thereupon.

The curvature and inclined planes given these parts or sections are such as that when they are brought together, as shown in Fig. 3, an elbow will be formed such as is applicable to a horizontal stove-pipe, while, at the same time, they can be reversed, and an elbow formed suitable for an upright pipe, as shown in Fig. 4.

Having thus described my invention, What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

The section A, with flanges a, in combination with the section 13, having flanges b b, all constructed and arranged, to form a curved reversible stove-pipe elbow, substantially as described and shown.
