TOILET.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 29, 1919.
Application filed April 2, 1919. SerialNo. 286,878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WLADYSLAW KozroL,
useful Improvements in Toilets, of which the following is a specification.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of av deposit receptacle normally closed but adapted for automatic opening whenever'required, the structure being simple and inexpensive to manufacture and sanitary in the use thereof.
A further object of the invention is to provide a toilet that may be portable for ready installation wherever desired such as for shopor household use, automatic closing means being provided rendering the device sanitary in its normal arrangement and ready for immediate use, the exterior appearance of the entire structure being that of a chest or cabinet of any desired form.
With these general objects in view, the invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described in connection with the accompanying drawings and in which like reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
In the drawings,
Figure 1 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view through the invention in its closed position,
Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse sectional view thereof taken upon line II-II of Fig. 1,
Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 2 with the lid removed,
Fig. 4 is a top plan view of the invention with the lid open,
Fig. 5 is a horizontal sectional view taken upon line VV of Fig. 1,
Fig. 6 is a perspective view of a hinge portion of one of the closure plates, and
Fig. 7 is a sectional view of one of the spring mounting means employed with the seat.
Referring more in detail to the drawings, my invention comprises a cabinet 10 having an opening 11 in the front side thereof adapted for the sliding reception of a tray 12 within the cabinet consuming substantially one-half of the interior thereof. The top 13 of the cabinet 10 is provided with a circular central opening 14 having an annular seat 15 mounted for vertical shifting through said opening and supported in the manner hereinafter set forth with dependlng tubular guides 16 slidably mounted through openings 17 in inwardly projecting arms 18' carried by the opposite sides 19 of the cabinet 10. I
A rectangular lid or cover 20 is hinged as at 21 at the rear of the cabinet 10 for closing upon the top 13 thereof overlying the seat 15. 'ihe paper holder 22 is carried by the lid 20 for holding papers 23 passing through a slot 24: in the lid 20 adjacent the hinged end of the lid.
Inwardly projecting ledges 25 are provided in the cabinet 10 pro ecting from the sides 19 above the level of the tray 12, each of said ledges havmg an elongated cover plate 26 trunnioned to its inner edge by a pintle 27, the plates 26 being adapted for normally closing by reason of their own weight for resting at their opposite ends upon inwardly extending lugs 28 centrally carried bv the end walls of the cabinet 10. An upright rod 29 downwardly projects within each of the guides 16 and secured to the seat 15, the lower ends of the rods 29 being loosely pivoted by a pin and slot connection 30 with angularly projecting ears 31 of the plates 26.
A spring 32 encircles each rod 29, the upper ends of said springs being seated within the guides 16 while the lower ends of the springs 32 are seated upon inwardly extending supports 33 carried by the cabinet sides 19 beneath the arms 18. The invention. is normally positioned as illustrated in Fig. 1 of the drawings and it will be evident that the lid 20 may be readily swung rearwardly upon its hinges 21 rendering the seat 15 ac cessible as illustrated in Fig. 4. The plates 26 are normally closed with the seat 15 in its elevated position by means of the springs 32 and the weight of the said plates 26. By exerting pressure upon the seat 15, the seat is depressed against the action of the springs 82 which lowers the rods 29 and opens the plate 26, the latter remaining Open until the pressure upon the seat 15 is released. It will be understood that deposits may be made into the tray 12 whenever the plates 26 are in their elevated open positions with the seat 15 depressed while upon releasing the pressure upon said seat, the plates 26 are automatically closed as heretofore noted. The lid 20 may be closed at will while the tray 12 preferably contains an antiseptic solution indicated at 34, the tray being read ily. removable for cleaning by means of handle 35 p n n end the eet- .r'lhedevice may be formed of any sultable material,
the tray 12 being preferably made of metal a while the cabinet 10 and seat 15 maybe formed of wood.
members carriedby the seat and extending downwardly through'the openings in the upper brackets, ears carried by said plates at the hinged sides, rods freely extending through the bracket openings and connected at their ends to the seat and ears,
and with their upper ends received in said,
sockets, and coil springs surrounding the rods between the lower bracket and seat Copies :01 this patent may be obtained for five cents each by addressing the Washington, D. 0.
normally to hold the seat elevated when the plates are in their lowered closed positions.
2. A cabinet having atop provided with a circular opening, normally horizontal hinged closing plates in the cabinet beneath said opening, means carried by the cabinet for limiting closing movement of said plates, a circular seat positioned adjacent the opening, bracket arms in vertical alinement car ried interiorly of said cabinet and having opening therein, depending socket members carried by the seat and extending "downwardly through the openings in the upper brackets, ears carried by said plates at the hinged sides, rods freely extending through the bracket openings and connected at'thfeir ends to the seat and ears, and with their upper ends received in said sockets, and
coil springs surrounding the rods between thelower bracket and seat normally to hold the seat elevated when the'plates are in their lowered closed positions, and a receptacle removably positioned in said cabinet beneath said plates.
' In testimony whereof I my signature.
