To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, WALTER L. CAMPB LL,

a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Combined Dresser and Table, of which the following is a specification.

My invention consists of a combined dresser and table, the formerbeing adapted to have the latter folded thereinto and when the table is required for use to be unfolded therefrom and placed in operative position on a floor, sustained in part by its legs and in part by said dresser.

It consists also in adapting the dresser to contain in addition to the table folded therein, dishes, knives, forks, spoons, towels, pots, and other furnishing for the table and kitchen.

It consists also of means for controlling the table especially in operative position.

It consists also of details of construction as will be hereinafter described.

The invention is satisfactorily illustrated in the accompanying drawing, but the important instrumentalities thereof may be varied, and so it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the specific details shown and described, as long as they are within the spirit or scope of the claims.

Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a dresser and table embodying my invention, the dresser being in closed condition.

Figure 2 represents a perspective view thereof, the dresser being in open condition, and the table being in operative position for use on a floor.

Figure 3 represents a longitudinal vertical section on line 3-3 Figure 1, on an enlarged scale, the table being folded in the dresser. r

Figure 4 represents a transverse vertical section on line 4-4 Figure 3.

Figure 5 represents a transverse section of the device showing the dresser open, and

the table removed therefrom and placed in operative position on the floor.

Referring to the drawings, l

l designates a kitchen cabinet or dresser, formed "of a body" having therein shelves 2 and drawers 3, for dishes, tableware, table cloths, napkins, etc. and provided with doors 4 for closing the front of the body.

Hinged to the cross piece or beam 5 in the lower portion of the interior of the body is the table 6 which is of the form of an extension table whose extra leaves when not in use may be placed on one of the shelves, said table being adapted to be folded in the body of the dresser when not in use, see Figures 3 and 4, but which when to be used may be unfolded and moved out into operative position so as to be rested on a floor, as most plainly shown in Figures 2 and 5, it being noticed that the free end of the table is provided with legs 7 which are connected by hinges 8 to the underside of the table top, whereby they may be folded against the underside of the table top, as shown in Figures 3 and 4, when the table occupies the body of the dresser, or they may be placed in upright position so as to support thetable in operative position, as shown in Figures 2 and 5, the table being then assisted in its support 1n operative position and prevented from giving or sagging 1n downward frame in the horizontal position of the latter and so is sup-ported positively thereagainst while also resting downward on said beam.

' In order to prevent the legs 7 from folding or shifting while supporting the table when in use, there is securedto the frame 12 of the table top below the free end of the latter the spring catch 13 which is adapted to engage the connect-ing bar 14 of the legs 7 when the latter are in upright position, see Figure 5, said catch, however yielding when force is applied to the legs when they may be folded against the table top when so required, said catch being also adapted to en age said cross bar when the legs are so to ded on the table top within the body of the dresser to control said legs against improper outward motion.

In order to hold the table when in operative position whereby it is prevented from improper rising, I secure to the underside of the table top the ear 15 which when the table is in operative position is adapted to be engaged by the dog 16 which is pivotally mounted on the cross piece 5 of the body of the dresser to which piece the table is connected by the-hinges 9 as has been stated, said dog having pivotally connected. with it the rod 17 and spring 18, thelatter being attached to said cross piece 5, and the dog being connected with the slide 19 which passes through an opening 20 in the side of the body of the dresser and has attached to its outer end the knob 21 which is accessible -on the exterior of the body of the dresser so that the dog 16 may be engaged with and disengaged from the ear 15, the engagement occurring when the table is in operative position and so the table may be controlled against rising and folding by said dog and ear.

The cross piece or beam 5 is of angular' form. Its vertical limb has the table 6 hinged thereto and its horizontal limb has the drop door 26 hinged thereto. The vertical limb is set back from the horizontal limb and so forms a recess in which the dog 16 is located, it being mounted on said vertical limb, said recess also providing means for receiving the spring 18 and a portion of the slide 19 whose other portion freely occupies the opening 20 in the side wall of the dresser as its guide. The outer end of said slide has thereon the operating knob 21 which is on the exterior of the cabinet as has been stated. N

The slide 19 is provided with the notch 22 which is adapted to engage thewall of a slot 23 in the plate 24 which is secured to the side of the body of the dresser so as to retain the dog 16 disengaged from the ear 15 when so required.

In order to permit the table when tobe used to be placed fully in horizontal position the front of the body of the dresser is cut away as at 25 below the doors 4 and covered by the supplemental door 26 which whemsaid upper doors are closed forms a continuation of the bottom of said doors 4 and'so the front of the dresser is completely closed, but when the table is to be used and so lowered from within the body of the dresser, said door 26 is lowered from the position shown in Figure 4, to that. shown in Figure 5, and so the table may be fully unfolded and placed inhorizontal position, a portion of its hinged end entering said space 25, as shown in Figure 5.

Connected with the hinged end of the table top are the weights 27 which depend therefrom and freely enter the bottom portion of the dresser and so weights the table in its swinging movements in unfolding and folding from and into the body of the In the bottom portion of the dresser is the shelf 29 forholding pots, kettles, pans, etc., doors 28 being provided therefor on said body to cover the same.

It is evident that when the table owing to its hinged swinging or pivotal connection with the dresser is folded into the body of the latter, and the several doors are closed, the table is concealed and the dresser presents an ordinary appearance as a dresser and occupies the space of thesame in an apartment usual in such cases while room for the table on the floor is saved. If desired, the dresser may be termed a cabinet, a case, a portable closet or the like, without affecting the nature thereof, and it may be installed in the wallof an apartment, thus giving more room on the floor for the table when opened out in operative position.

Having thus described my invention what I claim vas new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A combined dresser and table embodying a drawer, a folding table, a beam in I said slide being accessible on the exterior of the dresser.
