w/ rwEJSE-S v 5) ff/J Anne/VH5 a gal/g1 UNITED STATES PATENT orsron LEAH G. MILKES, OF MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA, ASSIGNOR T0 VENUS MANUFACTUR- ING COMPANY, OF MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA, A CORPORATION OF MINNESOTA.
HOOD FOR CHILDRENS GARMENTS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 8, 1919.
Original application filed March 19, 1917, Serial No. 155,869. Divided and this application filed May 27,
1918. Serial No. 236,681.
To all whom, it may concern Be it known that I, LEAH G. MILKES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hoods for Childrens Garments, and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention provides an improved hood with face closing flap and is filed as a division of my co-pending application S. T. 155,869, entitled Outdoor garment for child, filed March 19, 1917, and allowed April 27, 1918.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings wherein like characters indicate like parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the drawings:
Figure 1 is a front elevation showing the flap of the hood in upturned position; and
Fig. 2 is a View corresponding to Fig. 1, but showing a hood flap fastened down or in a closed position.
The body of the garment is indicated by the numeral 3 and the hood, which is preferably attached to the garment, is indicated by the numeral A. This hood is provided with a large face opening 5, and attached to the front top edge thereof, is a so-called face flap 6 which has a large central breathing passage 7. At its free edge, the flap Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents,
6 is provided with fastening means shown as in the form of ribbons or tie strings 8.
When the face flap is secured down, as shown in Fig. 2, the child may breathe and see through the opening 7 of the flap 6, but its face will be tho-roughly protected. W'hen it'is desired to open up the front of the hood, the flap can be turned upward over the top of the hood, but preferably would be turned into and against the top of the hood where it would be out of the Way and out of sight. When the flap is turned down, as shown in Fig. 2, the tie portion can be brought around the neck and tied at the back of the neck.
l/Vhat I claim is:
1. A hood provided with a face flap attached to the top front edge portion, said flap having a central breathing passage, and having at its free end tie strings adapted to be brought around the neck and secured at the back thereof.
2. A hood provided with a face opening, a face flap attached at the upper edge of the face opening and having a breathing passage, and means at the lower edge of the flap to attach the same without adjustment of the hood.
In testimonywhereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses;
LEAH G. MILKES. Witnesses:
