H. F. HOUGH.
BONNET.
APPLICATION FILED MAY 27, 1920.

A TTORNY band-forming piece are engaged with those Y To azz whom it may concern r tries.
' Burn 15. HOUGH, or SIERRA Malian/CALIFORNIA.
BONNET.
mraoie.
Be it known that I, RJUTK F Houorr a citizen of the United States, I'BSlCllll" at b1- erra Madre, infthexcounty of Los ng'eles and State of California, have invented a new and useful Bonnet, of Which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a bonnet of a type capable of being opened fiat for launfastened to a crown piece, and having a draw string encircling the crown piece so that the bonnet can be adjusted to fit the head of the wearer. By'this constructlon, when the ends of the band are disconnected and thedraw string loosened, the bonnet can be readily laundried, since it can be washedand ironed the same as any fiat work. 1
Other objects and advantages will appear in the subjoined detailed description.
The accompanying invention.
Figure 1 is a view of one side of a bonnet embodying the invention, the bonnet belng open for laundrying purposes.
Fig. 2 is a view of the other side'of the open bonnet shown in Fig. 1.
Fig. 8 is an enlarged sectional elevation on line indicated by w m' Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a side elevation'of the bonnet closed ready for wearing.
There is provided a crown-forming plece 1 having a curved edge 2 extending around substantially twothirds thereof. The crown-forming piece 1 connects at '3 with the intermediate portion of a curved bandforming piece 4. The ends of the band-' forming piece 4 extend beyond the junction of the intermediate portion 3 with the crown-forming piece to form flaps 5 which can be detachably connected'with the curved edge 2 by any'suitable means. In this particular instance the edge 2 and the bandforming piece 4 are provided with cooperating fastening means in the form of snap fasteners 6, 7, the members 7 being spaced at closer intervals than the members 6. so that when the fastening members of the of the crown-forming piece the marginal portion of the crown-forming piece will be full relative to the band-forming piece. The flaps 5 are provided with cooperating fasdrawings illustrate the end portions of the draw string 12 pass Specification of Letters Patent. PatentgdjAp g lggl Application filed May 27, 1920. SeriaI No. 3845M; I v
tening means so that said flaps may be connected to each other at their ends'and for "l is formed from a single thickness of material and the band-f0rming piece 5 of two thicknesses, one of which is integral with the crown-forming piece 1. The other thickness of material forms a facing 10 which, if desired, may be'of difierent color and weave to lend, a distinctive appearance to the bonnet.
The free edge or marginal portion of the crown-forming piece 1 is preferably provided with a hem 11 through which extends a drawstring 12, though the draw string may be omitted, if the maker so elect. The draw string 12 also extends between the two thlcknesses of material comprised. in the band-forming piece 4, there being spaced hnes 13 of stitches and the draw string ex tending between said lines of stitches. The
net is shown opened for laundrying, and to close the bonnet, and thus put it into the wearing condition shown in Fig. 4, the fasteners 6 will be engaged with the fasteners and the flaps 5 will be buttoned together.
Then the ends of the draw string 12, if the bonnet be provided with such string, will be drawn to decrease the diameter of the bonnet sufficiently so that it will fit the head of the wearer.
Then the bonnet becomes soiled, operations the reverse of those just described will be performed to open thebonnet so that it can'be readily laundried.
It will be understood that, though the drawings show the crown-forming piece 1 and one of the. members of the band-forming piece 1 constructed from a single piece of material, they may, if desired, be made of separate pieces sewed together in a manner readily understood in the dressmakers and other releasable fastening means on the band-forming piece and marginal portion of the crown-forming piece.
2. 'A bonnet comprising a band-forming piece, a crown-forming piece connected with the intermediate portion of the band-forming piece, the end portion of the band-forming piece forming flaps, releasable fastening means for the flaps, releasable fasteningmeans on the band-forming piece and marginal portion of the crown-forming piece, and a draw string in the free edge of the crown-forming piece and in the intermediate portion of the band-forming piece.
3 A; bonnet comprlslng a curved bandforming piece, a crown-forming plece having a curved edge and connected along a piece, releasable fastening means on the ends of the band-forming piece, and cooperating fastening means on the band-forming piece and free marginal portion of the crown- I01 mmg piece.
