Specification of Letters Patent.
ONE-PIECE GARMENT.
Patented dept. a, 19ft.
Application filed May 10, 1917. Serial N0. 167,784.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, ALVIN E. HOSTET- LER and XVILLIAM E. RICHARDS, citizens of the United States, residing at Hutchinson, in the county of Reno and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in One'Piece Garments, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful'improvements in union garments and more particularly to one-piece garments for outside wear, such as are known to the trade as union outer garments, the same em bodying the association of overalls and jacket or jumper combined in such a manner that the suit may be conveniently applied and removed, and so constructed as to be most convenient in use.
The present invention has for its objects among others to improve upon prior devices of this general character and to provide the same with a continuous opening crotch from the waist-line at the back to the first button at the front and then open at the front up to the neck-band, with a left-hand underfly extended to the left and continuous around to the first button at the bottom of the crotch and under the pocket of the garment. This continuous opening renders the garment convenient for use and the flap serves as a reinforce.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will hereinafter appear and the novel features thereof will be particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, with the numerals of reference marked thereon, form a part of this specification, and in which igure 1 is a front elevation of a garment constructed in accordance with our invention.
Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the same with the flap closed.
Fig. 3 is a view showing the front of the garment opened and the flap also opened and turned back.
Like numerals of reference indicate like parts in the different views.
Referring to the drawings,
1 designates the body portion or what may be termed the jumper or jacket and 2 the trousers portion of the garment, the same being made of any suitable material and joined together at the Waist-line by any suitable means, such as a belt or band 3 stltched to the jumper and trousers portion, so as to make the garment of that general character known as one-piece or union garments for outside wear.
In its general character the garment, under or outer, may be of any of the wellknown or approved forms of construction except as hereinafter particularly pointed out and in which resides our present invention.
The garment is open at the front from the point 4 at the neck-band to the point 5 of the crotch and thence up the back to the point 6 at the back of the crotch approximately at the waist-band 3. This leaves a continuous opening from the point 4 at the front, throughout the extent of the crotch and to the point 6 at the back. The front may be closed by suitable means, as buttons and button-holes 7 and 8 respectively or snap fasteners or any other suitable means of closing the same.
9 is a fly secured to the right-hand portion of the leg of the trousers at the crotch and adapted to extend within the other leg of the trousers across the crotch and to be secured by suitable snap fasteners 10, one portion upon the free edge of the fly and the other upon the inside of the rear portion of the other leg of the trousers, as seen in Fig. 3. The flap or fly 9 is provided along its edge adjacent its connection with the leg of the garment with portions 11 of snap fasteners, the other portions 12 of which are upon the adjacent edge of the other leg of the garment at the crotch, as seen clearly in Fig. 3. This flap or fly when closed constitutes a lefthand underfiy which extends back of the rear pocket 13 of the garment and forms a reinforce for the seat of the garment at this point.
A garment constructed as above described is neat in appearance and the construction will be found such as to render it exceedingly convenient and handy in use.
It will be understood that, if desired, the entire garment may be made of one continuous piece, if found more desirable. It is also evident that various modifications in detail, changes as to proportion of parts,
.etc., and different means of fastening may be employed without departing from the spirit of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages.
WVhat is claimed as new is A union oversuit consisting of body and trousers portions, the trousers portion having a crotch open from the Waist-band at 5 the rear to the Waist-band at the front, a flap secured along one edge to the adjacent portion of one leg of the trousers at the crotch, means for securing said edge to the adjacent portion of the other leg of the 10 trousers, said flap adapted to fold Within the trousers and to be afiixed to the inner face of the rear portion of the leg opposite that to which it is attached.
In testimony whereof we efiix our signatures in the presence of two Witnesses.
