ATTORNEY s rzrzns m. rnom-uma WASHINGWIM n UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
CHARLES G. PELTIER, OF ONTONAGON, MICHIGAN.
COMBINED HAIR BRUSH AND COMB.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES Gr. PELTIER,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Ontonagon. in the county of Ontonagon and State of Michigan, have inventednew and useful Improvements in Combined Hair Brushes and Combs, of which the following is a specification,
This invention is an improved combined hair brush and comb, the object of the invention being to provide an improved article of this kind, which can be used either as a comb or as a brush, which is simple in construction and which can be readily manu' factured at small cost.
The invention consists in the construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a side elevation, parts in sec' tion illustrating the improvement, the comb being in inoperative position.
Fig. 2 is an edge view of the same with the comb in operative position.
The brush is provided with the usual handle 2. On the flat face of the back of the brush, at diametrically opposite points are secured the lower flanged ends 3 of spring standards 4. The standards are provided with side walls 5 which gradually cle crease in width from the outer to the inner ends of the said standards, and the said standards adjacent to their outer ends are provided each with an opening.
The comb is indicated by the numeral 6 and has its ends provided with outstanding pivots 7, arranged adjacent to what may be termed the outer corners of the said comb, and which pivots pass through the referred to openings in the standards 4.
The sides or flanges 5 embrace the sides of the end teeth of the comb when the latter is in inoperative position, as illustrated in Fig. 1 of the drawings. A lateral pressure Patented May 13, 1919.
Application filed April 3, 1918. Serial No. 226,482.
upon the comb causes the ends of the comb to ride overthe inclined outer edges of the flanges 5, also causing the standards 4 to spring away from each other. The pivots 7 are of a length-sufiicient to at all times retain the same in the openings in the standards, and when the combis brought to 0perative position, as illustrated in Fig. 2 of the drawings, the standards will spring inwardly toward each other and toward the ends of the comb, the widened portions of the flanges 5 holding the comb in this position, the said standards, and the flanges thereof holding the comb also in inoperative position, as will be understood.
What is claimed as new is: j
1. In combination with a brush, resilient comb holding means on the back of the brush, arranged at right angles thereto and having side walls at their outer ends on their opposing sides, a comb having pivots at its ends mounted in the outer ends of the comb holding means and adapted to be turned thereonto either projected or with drawn position, the side walls of the comb holding meansserving to engage and hold the comb in either of such positions.
2. In combination with a brush, resilient comb holding means on the back of the brush arranged at right angles thereto and havingside walls which gradually decrease in width from the outer to the inner ends thereof so that their inner ends are of a width approximately equaling that of the transverse walls thereof, a comb having pivots at its ends mounted in the outer end of the comb holding means and adapted to CHARLES G, rnLrren.
