Description

F. c. uncun. COMBINED COME AND BRUSH.
APPLICATION FILED OCT-14, 1920- v Patented Dec. 7, 1920.
I I I A? gnuenfo o UNITED STATES FREDERICK C. ORCUTT, OF GUMMING'ION, MASSACHUSETTS.
COMBINED COMB AND BRUSH.
Application filed. October 14, 1920.
To all whom it may concern."
Be it known that I, FREDERICK C. ORoU'r'r,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Cummington, in the county of Hampshire and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Combs and Brushes, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a combined comb and brush.
The invention aims to provide a combined comb and brush, of simple construction, with the elements so arranged that they may be conveniently used, without interfering with the use of each other.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,
Figure 1 is a plan view of a device embodying my invention,
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the comb,
Fig. 3 is a plan view of the comb,
Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the spring catch,
Fig. 5 is av plan View of the same, and,
Fig. 6 is a transverse section taken on line 66 of Fig. 1.
In the drawings, the numeral 10 designates the back of a comb, having a handle 11. The top of this back may be flat.
The numeral 12 designates the back of the comb, carrying teeth 13. This back is provided upon its lower side with a depending boss 14:, having an aperture 15, receiving a pivot element 16', attached to the back 10. It is thus seen that the boss 11 retains the comb spaced from the back 10. The pivot 16 is arranged near one edge of the back 10, and the teeth 13 therefore project laterally beyond the back.
The numeral 16 designates a resilient leafspring or catch, secured to the top of the back 10, at 17 and provided at its end with a projection 18, extending laterally therefrom. This projection is adapted to enter either recess 19, in the ends of the back 12. The catch 16 has an inclined portion 20 at the extension 18, as shown.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. '7, 1920.
Serial No. 416,941.
In use, the comb may be used, when shifted to the open position, as shown in Fig. 1, and is held in this position by extension 18 entering one recess 19. The end of the spring catch 16 may be depressed, so that extension 18 moves out of recess 19, and the comb rotated to assume the position shown in dotted lines, the comb being held in this position, by extension 18 entering the other recess 19.
It is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described 1s to be taken as a preferred example of the same, and that various changes in the shape, size, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of my invention, or the scope of the subjoined claims.
Having thus described my invention, I claim 1. The combination with the back of a brush, of a comb disposed upon the top of the back and having a head, means to pivotally connect the head and back, and a spring catch secured to the back and adapted to be arranged between the back and head, when engaging either end of the head.
2. The combination with the back of a brush, of a comb arranged upon the top of the back, said comb including a head having 21 depending boss to retain the comb spaced from the back, said head being provided upon its lower side and near its ends with recesses, a pivot element passing through the boss to pivotally connect the comb and back, and a leaf spring secured to the back near one end thereof and adapted to be arranged between the back and head of the comb, said leaf spring having a laterally extending element to enter either recess.
. In testimony whereof, I have aflixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
FREDERICK C. ORCUTT.
Witnesses:
GRACE G. OROUTT, ARTHUR E, ORCUTT.
