Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 22, 1919.
Application filed December 16, 1918. SerialNo. 267,015.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT C. ARNOLD, a citizen of the United States, residing at East Hampton, in the county of Middlesex and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Toys; and
I do hereby declare the following, when,
taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the characters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this application, and represent in Figure 1 a side View of a toy constructed in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2 a front view, partly in section, of the same.
This invention relates to an improvement in toys, and particularly in wheel toys of the so called floor chime type, that is, a toy which is adapted to be trundled along the floor by a child and sound a series of bells, the object of the invention being a simple arrangement of parts whereby a series of bell of different tones may be successively sounded.
In carrying out my invention, I employ two wheels 3 and 4 fixed to the axle 5. Fixed to the center of the axle is a hub 6 of a bellcarrier the rim 7 of which is connected with the hub by three spokes 8, the diameter of the rim being smaller than the diameter of the wheels. Fixed to the inner face of the rim between the spokes are three bells 9, 10 and 11, preferably of different tones. These bells stand transversely to the plane of the rim so as to project on opposite sides thereof. Loosely suspended on the axle near opposite ends are two hammer arms 12 and 13 each supporting a hammer 14 which stand in the path of the edges of the chimes so that as the toy is rolled along the floor the bell will successively pass the hammers which strike them and produce the sound. The toy is provided with a wire bail the ends of which are loosely looped around the axle. These parts are readily assembled and produce an attractive wheel toy.
I claim A wheel toy comprising a pair of wheels, an axle on which they are mounted, a bellcarrying rim smaller in diameter than the diameter of the wheels mounted on the center of the axle, bells secured to the said rim transversely thereto, and a striker loosely hung on the axle and adapted to come in contact with the bells as the toy is revolved.
In testimony whereof, I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ALBERT C. ARNOLD.
