Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 4', 1921.
Application filed. February 26, 1920. Serial No. 361,572.
T 0 all w ham it may concern Be it known that I, IGNATIUs MAISANO, a citizen of the United States, residing at Wilmington, in the county of New Castle and State of Delaware, have invented new and useful Improvements in Toys, of which the following is a specification.
This invention-relates to a trundling toy adapted to be rolled over the floor or ground whereby to operate various objects to attract the attention of and amuse the user. In carrying out my invention I provide a toy comprising a wheel and a handle for pushing or pulling it over the ground or the floor and pivotally suspend within such wheel a series of cars or baskets to hold dolls or other playthings, which cars or baskets, as the toy is trundled, travel in a circular path as in the action of the well known Ferris wheel. Furthermore, I combine in such structure bells which are sounded as the wheel revolves; a loosely jointed dancing figure or figures which perform an amusing dance or shuffle, said figure or figures also being arranged so as to kick at or toward said cars or baskets or their contents while the latter are in course of rotation, and at the same time produce a clicking noise by contact of said figure or figures with parts of the wheel, all of these operations being performed at the same time and by the trundling movement of the toy.
,With such amusing objects in view the invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described, pointed out in the claims and shown in the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved toy, and Fig. 2 a rear view of the same.
10 indicates a wheel rotatable on an axle 11 carried in a frame, the latter being formed of two side bars 12, an end block 13 and a handle 14 fitting in a hole in the block 13. The wheel 10 is shown as made of two disks 15 spaced apart and fastened on the ends of a hub 16 through which the axle 11 passes. The disks 15 may have openings 17 formed therein of circular or other shape for the purpose of ornamentation and also to open duce distinctive tones.
up to view the space between the disks and the objects therein contained. The disks are provided with cross rods 18 from which cars or baskets 19 are loosely suspended and in which dolls and other playthings may be set. A support 20 straddles the upper part of the wheellO, said support preferably being made of sheet metal and to consist of two vertical members 21 and a connecting strip 22 above the wheel. The lower ends of the members 21 are rigidly secured to the side bars 12, while against the under side of the connecting strip 22 are fastened a number of bells 23 which I prefer to use of different sizes or character in order to pro- Each bell 22 has a loosely mounted hammer or clapper 24:, said hammers being in a position to be struck as the wheel 10 is rotated by any one of the cross wires or rods 25 which extend between the disks 15. Turrets 26 are erected upon the connecting strip 22 at the summits of which turrets are staffs from which fly flags 27.
A dancing figure 28, supported on a spring 29, is attached to the block 13 so that the feet of said figure shall be struck by the cross wires or rods 25 and thus caused to vibrate and also efiect a clicking sound as coming from the feet of a dancer. Two or more figures of amusing shape and action may be used and similarly operated. When the toy is moved along the wheel 10 revolves and carries the baskets or cars 19 around the hub in a vertical path, the cross wires or rods 25 at the same time causing the ringing of the bells 23 and the figure or figures 25 to dance to the music furnished by the bells.
I claim In a trundling toy, the combination of a wheel comprising spaced disks and a hub, and rotatable on the floor or ground, a frame consisting of side bars and a connecting block in which bars said wheel is ournaled, a handle attached to said block for trundling the toy, an arch-like support straddling the wheel and fastened at its lower ends to said side bars, a series of bells attached to said support and having freely swinging hammers or clappers, a series of rods extending between the wheel disks fitted to engage the Wheel is rotated and to produce a clicking bell hammers or clappers when the wheel is sound during such rotation. 10 rotated, a basket or car loosely suspended In testimony whereof I afiix my signature from each of said rods, a spring wire atin presence of two witnesses.

to be encountered and put in motion as the NICOLANTONIO MINUTELLO.
