Specification of Letters Eatent. Patented NOV. 23, 1920.
Application filed February 26, 1920. Serial No. 361,569.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, IoNA'rrUsMAIsANo, a
citizen or" the United States, residing at Wilmington, in the county of New Castle and State of Delaware, have invented new and useful Improvements in Toys, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to toys'for the amusement of children', and more particularly to a'mechanical toy of the Ferris wheel type in which a wheel rotates in a vertical plane and carries'with it a plurality. of suspended seats or baskets wherein dolls and other laythings may be placed; the wheel being turned by means of a crank, while a second oraiilgconnected to a jointed figure, moves the latter whereby to suggest that such figure is turning the wheeler aiding the operator. To afford additional amuse inent a plurality of bells are arrangcdto be sounded by the rotating wheel.
. The invention consists inthe combination;
and arrangement of parts hereinafter described, and more espcc1ally as set torth 1n the claims and illustrated in the accompany-- ing drawings in which- Figure 1 is an elevation of my improved toy; and Fig. 2'an elevation viewed at a right angle to Flg. 1.
10 is a base of circular or other fornn:
from which rises two spaced standards 11 preferably ornamental in outline and suitably embellished. Between, the standards 11 is a Ferris wheel 12 formed of two disks 13 which are mounted on the ends of a hub 14:
fixed upon an axle 15, the latter having in the standard 11. Between the of the wheel 12 area number of from each'ofwhich is arms 17 a basket or bearings disks 13 equally spaced rods 16 freely suspended by may be put to ride with the rev'olvingwheel 12. The ends of the'aXle pass through the standards 11 and are bent .toform the cranks 19 and 20,th'e former or main one being employed to turnthewhe el 12. Pivoted tothe supplemental crank; 20 are the hands of a jointed human figure 21, its arms 22 being pivoted to its body 23,- whilethe dolls or other playthings latter in turn is pivoted at 24: to the station- 'ary legs 25, they being secured to the base.
,10- or to a bracket 26 projecting therefrom. i
' When the wheel 12 is turned by means'of v the crank '19, the crank 20 will cause the apex of the brace having an ornament 28.
.55 to the'user the idea of re-' to which are attached flags 29. Flags 30 a may be displayed at other suitable points on the standard'as shown;
Attached to the under sideo'f the brace et) 27, are a-plurality ofbells 31, the clappers' 82 lying in the path of the rods 16, 'so that as the wheel 12 rotates the rod 16 will strike the clappers 82 and cause the ringing of the i i .70
bells.
The general arrangement such that when the wheel 12-is turned" by means of a crank 19, the; baskets 18, swinging from the rod 16,.travel in a circular path, the bells -are run g, and the" figure 21 appears: to be turning the wheel. v I
I claim I standards fixed to said base and extending upwardly therefrom, a. wheel comprising two dlsks and having spaced rods connecting them, said wheel being ournale'd in said I or'seats carried by said for rotating'the' wheel, a second or supplemental crank rotatable with the wheel, a jointed figure pivotally connected to said second crank and is rotated, and a to be sounded by the spaced rods of the rotating wheel. y t
' 2. lln' a toy, the combination of a base, spaced standards fixed to said base and extending upwardly therefrom, an axle journaled 'in said-standards and having a main at the other end, a'wheel formed of two 1. In a toy, the combination'of "a' 'base,
movable asthe main crank plurality of bells adapted I w .95 crank at one end and a supplemental crank tween the standards,
clappers a plurality of spaced rods extending between the wheel disks, a
basket or seat swinging freely from each rod, a jointed figurefixe'd on the base and pivotally connected to said second crank, abrace connecting the tops of said stand-- ards, and bells attached to said brace, the or hammersof which bells are adapted to be struck by said spaced rods of the wheel when the latter is rotated.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of twowitnesses.
