1 Claim.

This'invention relates to'toys and more particularly to a toy merry go-round incorporating visual and audible means for the entertainment of children.

The principal object of the invention is the provision of a toy merry-go-round.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a toy merry-go-round incorporating a music box.

A still further object of the invention is the provision of a toy merry-go-round adapted for manual operation and incorporating means whereby the music box portion thereof may be operated independently of the merry-go-round.

The toy merry-go-round shown and described herein comprises an attractive and durable toy particularly adapted as a plaything for small children. The moving portions of the toy are enclosed in a protective wire cage to prevent the same from being accidentally or willfully damaged and the device includes a crank by which the merry-go-round may be revolved and a music box actuated either simultaneously with the operation of the merry-go-round or independently thereof.

With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what i claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.

By referring to the drawings and Figures 1 and 2 in particular it will be seen that the music box comprises a circular base II] having a top II of larger diameter than the base I and carrying a plurality of uprights I2 at spaced intervals which extend upwardly and inwardly and converge at a central elevated point with respect to the top II and define an area in which a merrygo-round disc I3 and a cylindrical body member I4 are located. An opening 2I i formed in one side of the collar 20 on the shaft I8 so that one end of an adjustment screw 22 may be engaged therein, as best shown in Figure 2 of the drawings, whereby motion of the shaft I8 is imparted to the merry-go' round disc I3 as the adjustment screw 22 is secured to the merry-go-round disc by brackets 23 and 24.

The bracket 24 is threaded as is the one end of the screw 22 so that rotating movement imparted thereto will move it longitudinally into and out of engagement with the opening 2I in the side of the collar 20 on the shaft I8. Thus, the merry-go-round disc I3 may be connected with the shaft I8 at will so that rotating motion imparted the shaft by the handle I9 may be imparted to the merry-go-round disc I3 and the The lower end of the shaft I8 is enclosed in the circular base I0 and has a bracket 25 secured thereto by means of a set screw 26.

The bracket 25 carries a plurality of metal reeds 27 and are so arranged that they will revolve about the shaft I8 when the same is rotated. A bell 28 and a striker ball 29 are suspended from the top II and enclosed within the circular base In and positioned for engagement with the plurality of reeds 21 when the same are revolved. Thus, revolving motion imparted the shaft I8 by the handle I9 will rotate the plurality of reeds 2'! which will alternately engage the bell 28 and the striker ball 29 and thereby create musical tones. At such time as the adjustment screw 22 is engaged with the collar 29 the merry-go-round disc and the figures thereon will also revolve.

A plurality of circular wire guards 30 are positioned about and secured to the uprights I2 so as to partially enclose the moving portions of the toy and each of the uprights I2 has a depending leg section 3|, the bottom of which is provided with a rubber foot 32 and at least two of the legs 3| are provided with offset brakes 33 by means of which the toy may be permanently mounted on a suitable supporting surface.

In order that the toy may be picked up and carried, a wire handle 34 is secured to two of the uprights I2 and arches upwardly and over the handle [9.

, It will thus be seen that an attractive and novel toy merry-go-round has been disclosed which is durably formed of simple materials and parts and which may be operated for the visual and audible pleasure of small children;

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:

In a toy merry-go-round having a circular uprights, a crank on the uppermost end of said shaft; a collar having an opening therein secured to said shaft, a merry-go-round disc rotatably positioned on said top piece and an adjustment screw threadably mounted on said merry-go-round disc for registry in the opening in said collar whereby rotatable motion imparted to the said shaft may be conveyed through the screw to said disc when said screw is engaged in said collar and music making means in said base connected to said shaft for actuation thereby when said shaft is rotated.
