Ira/en Michael Henry in-hand tie may be easily draped and which UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
IICHAEL HENRY, or CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
To allwhom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MICHAEL a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of. Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tie-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
. Myvinvention relates to improvements in tie fasteners, and has for its object the pro- Visionof a tie fastener upon which any fouris guickly and easily placed on a collar.
. ther objects will appear hereinafter.
The/invention consists in the combinationsand arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed. 7.
The invention will .be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming apart, of this'specification and in which, Figure 1 is a rear view of the tie fastener, Fig. 2, is a rear view with a partbroken away, I
Fig. 3, is a rear view with a portion in sectionto show the locking means,
Fig. .4 is a top plan view, Fig. 5, is a view showingthe arrangement of the tie on the fastener, and Fig. 6, is a sectional view on the line 6'-6 of1Fig. 1. The preferred form of construction con sists in a metallic casing'l having one end so bent outwardly as to form a flaring tongue 2. The flaring tongue 2 is rolled as at 3 to form a seatfor a flexible member 4. Small metallic hooks 5 are attached to the protruding ends of said flexible member 4, said hooks being adapted to be hooked into the fabric portion of the tie, thus causing it to be draped about the flare. The casing 1 has a slot 6 extending throughout its entire length, said slot being adapted to contain a guide member 7. Attached to and extending in a lateral direction on each side of the top of the casing 1 are curved metallic members 8, said members being adapted to be placed under the flares of a collar to prevent the twisting of a tie and also to form arms upon which the tie is draped. The guide member 7 is so bent that its central portion acts as a guide member and its ends are so bent as to form hooks .9. Below said hooks 9 is another set of hooks 10, the two sets 9 and 10 being adapted to be hooked into the fabric of the tie, thus assuringl a snug fit about the casing. The casing 1 as Specification of Letters Patent.
HENRY,

three openings 11, said openings being" opposite the slot 6 andbeingof such diameter as to readily receive the head of a collar button. On the slotted side of. the casing and near its lowerv extremity, a wire loop 16 is attached, said loopbeing of such a size as to readily receive thenarrow fly end of afour-in-hand tie. 7 j
Within th casing 1 isa metallic tube 12, said tube 12 containinga slotted ortion 13 which extends two-thirds its entirelength,
and a flaring end 14. On the opposite side of the tube from the slot 13 areopenings 17,.said slot and openings being adapted to correspond to the slot and openings in the casing 1, inwhich the tube is mounted.
A spring 15 is fastened to the top oftube j 12 and is adapted .to engage the inner side of the top of the casing 1. Theassembly of the structure is 'as'follows: The tube 12 is Iplaced-within thecasing 1,. slot 13 in said tu e adjacent the .slot Got the casing, and is pressed upwardly as far as the spring 15 will permit. The guidermember 7 is then placed in the slot 13 through the slot 6 and is made fast to the outercasingr Thetube is then released and it is prevented from coming out of the casing by the guide member resting against the top of the slot 13.
The operationof the deviceis as follows: A tie is draped over the members 8 and about the casing' 1, ,said tie being held snugly about the casing l by means of the hooks 9, 10 and ,5. The narrow-flare of the tie; is then pulled down through the loop 16. The tube-12 is then pressed upwardly until'the openings 13 and 11 correspond; the members 8 are then tucked up under the flares of the collar and the collar button head is introduced into one of the openings 11; which of said openings being dependent on the height of the collar. The tube 12 is then released and the collar button becomes firmly wedged between the sides of the opening in the tube and the casing.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the ap ended claims,
Having described my invention, what I tie-engaging arms on claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:-
- a 1. An article of the class described comprising a tubular casing having laterally exarms; openlngs in said Y tending tie-engaging casing; means mounted within said casing adapted to engage a collar button head whereby said head may be lockedin said openings, substantially as described.
2. Anar ticleofthe class described coin: prising" a casing"having laterally extending.
