T 0 all whom it may concern -Be it known that I, SAMUEL H; GIBSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Guyahoga and State'of' Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Sadiron-i-Tolders (6,) 01" which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The present invention relates to a sad iron holder of the typewhich is particularly designed for use in connection Wlth sad irons which in the trade are known as Mrs. Pottssad irons.

The object of the invention is to provide a sad iron holder of the type mentioned in which the hand engaging portion is formed of resilient material so that under the action of ironing a certain resiliency and cushioning effect is provided.

A further object is to provide a construction such that the hand engaging portion, together with the uprights which support the hand engaging portion with respect to the base and the latch for the holder are formed from a continuous piece of wire which is bent into suitable shape to provide the desired construction.

Further objects of the invention will appear more at large as the description proceeds, and generally speaking it may be said that the invention comprises the elements and. combinations thereof set forth in the accompanying claims.

7 The hand engaging portion is generally represented at 7 and comprlses a wire coil :which'prtaferably' is of greater diameter at the center port1on thereof and tapers toward the ends. The handengaging portion '7' is supported withrespect to thebase by a single piece of wire which is fabricated to form the coiled portion for the hand engaging portion as well as the uprights 7 and 7 The upright 7 extends through slot 3 and has a portion indicated at 7 which forms a latch member. This member 7 bears against the transversely extending member 6 of the base under normal condi tions and a continuation of the wire is formed with a loop such as indicated at 7 d and also an extending foot 7 e which extends through the opening 5 in the base and in position to cooperate with the part 6 of the base.

The wire out of which the construction just described is formed may be of any desired quality and preferably is sufficiently flexible so that by the inherent resiliency of the wire the latch member '7 is normally held against the cross member 6 of the base.

The part 7 takes the place of the usual knob and is adapted to be engaged by a finger of the user so that it may be raised against the resiliency of the wire to permit its being adapted to a sad iron.

The portion 7 of the wire extends through the slot 3 in the base but is not secured therein so that it may have a limited amount of movement.
